Press Release from Wyatt Earp: 2 weeks till the shootout at the OK Coral (oral arguments before the Missouri Supreme Court, October 3,2013.)
Wyatt seeks to bring law and order to a lawless town run rough shod over by the establishment (city hall and business elite) who do not want the voters to vote on the people's valid light rail initiative.
Though, these stellar collaborators do not mind forcing a downtown streetcar (party-entertainment) line on the people without the consensus of a city-wide vote, nor do they mind putting their own speculative medical research plan...that comes equipped with a million dollar campaign to brainwash the people... before those same voters.
Given the fact our city resources are dwindling, the people can only afford to tax themselves for infrastructure improvements that directly benefit them and prosper the city...like the multimodal, city-wide modern transit system the light rail initiative proposes.
Though 5% of America's population holds 93% of the nation's bounty, this does not stop the well off in Kansas City from asking the overburdened, money-strapped, lowly taxpayer to fund their big speculative medical research plan.
I challenge the rectitude of their motives. The wealthy should fund the medical research, and the taxpayers a new modern transit system.
Kansas City...like the nation...is out of balance. The wealthy indulge themselves on glitzy entertainment...usually funded in part with taxpayer dollars...and receive economic, political, and tax advantages from sychophantic governments unavailable to the average citizen This immoral recipe does not comport with a rising middle class.
Thus, the middle class shrinks and the ranks of the poor expand. In Kansas City...adding injury to injury... the people are held financially hostage in a car-dependent city.
Consider this: the average cost of a new car is now $31,000.00, not to mention all the following incindentals associated with it: Ballooning gas, maintenance, insurance, parking, and road maintenance costs; along with increased traffic congestion, accidents, poor air quality, etc.
Yes, the car is wonderful...and America builds some great ones ( i have one). But, we have too many, and are becoming a car-poor nation where people have to spend too much of their disposal income on auto-based transportation because often, like in Kansas City, there are not suitable and less costly alternative transportation systems to move about.
So...assuming the Missouri Supreme Court orders the city to place the light rail initiative before Kansas City voters... I ask the people of
Kansas City this question:
Would you rather invest your local tax dollars on a medical research gamble, or on building what the light rail initiative proposes: a challenging first class transit system comprised of a light rail train system from Waldo to KCI, a suburban commuter train system from south Kansas City to Union Station, a streetcar line from the Kansa City Zoo to Union Station, a new fleet of electric shuttle buses, and a vast network of new bikeways...with everything converging at a regional transportation center at the north wing of Union Station?
