KCPD brass getting dunked for a good cause
Kansas City Missouri Police Department members will take a shot at their bosses – including Chief Darryl Forté – in the inaugural Dunk-a-Cop fund-raiser for Special Olympics Missouri on Friday.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Kansas City Police Credit Union, 10:15 to 10:30 a.m.
The chief, other police commanders, leaders of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 99 and Credit Union President Aaron Goff all will take their turns in the dunk tank. Hecklers also will be on site, cheering and jeering the dunkees and those who are trying to get them in Street. Media are invited to attend. Chief Forté will be in the dunk tank from Department members, retirees and others will get to throw three balls at the tank for $5. Each dunkee also has pledged to donate $5 for every time they hit the water. The Kansas City Police Credit Union also will put on a barbecue, offering lunch for $5. All proceeds will go to Special Olympics Missouri. Five dollars also will buy a ticket in a state-wide raffle for a 2013 Dodge Challenger. Tickets will be on sale at the Friday event.
Special Olympics is the charity of choice for law enforcement nationwide.
“We want to raise more money for them this year than any other police department in the state,” said Captain Karen True, one of Dunk-a-Cop’s organizers.
She and Administrative Assistant Michelle Stirnaman organized the inaugural event.
“We wanted a way for people to have fun but raise money for a great cause,” Stirnaman
