By a rough estimate there have been at least four shootings and 2 homicides so far this weekend . . .

"This morning at approximately 5am, officers were called to a residence in the 300 block of Belmont in regard to the sound of gunshots. Upon arrival officers located a deceased male (b/m approx. 30yoa) shooting victim on the front porch. Officers observed a vehicle flee the scene at a high rate of speed and pursued it to 24th and Indiana where a male was taken in to custody. Several witnesses are being interviewed who state the residence is a known party house. At this time it is unknown what led up to the shooting. So, as police ran checkpoints and increased their presence this weekend . . . Kansas City deadly violence remains unchecked and at a marked increase this Summer.
This homicide was #74 compared to 69 at this time last year - Unofficially.
While Jackson County is focusing on a "Step Up, Speak Up" campaign to encourage community cooperation, Kansas City Mayor and Council have been mostly focused on the economic development like the Downtown Toy Train Streetcar, another Dowtown Hotel and several taxpayer subsidies for the corporate elite.
Last week 3-year-old Damiah White was Kansas City's youngest murder victim this year.
