Calling Out KC Selective LGBT Reporting
Every once in awhile we try to remind readers that CAMP KC is Kansas City's LGBT media source-of-record.
Fun Fact . . . It's a great read for everybody else as well.
Two important topics that stand out in the recent issue . . .
CHECK THIS STATEMENT FROM THE EDITOR REGARDING "SELECTIVE REPORTING" FROM THE MAINSTREAM NEWSPAPER!!!
"The reporter used none of the good things that I said about Burnes, but only a negative comment about how I feel personally about bachelorette parties in gay bars. I’ve been candid about this issue to my friends: I think bachelorette parties in gay bars are disrespectful of LGBT people who can’t marry in Missouri and Kansas. But that’s my personal opinion.
"I told the reporter that if I had wanted to make that kind of statement in print, I would have done it many months ago on the editorial page of Camp.
"Overall, the Star article was favorable about Burnes. I just wish the reporter had told me she was interviewing me and recording my comments for her article."
Again, this is an important note for everybody talking with mainstream reminder that dwindling page counts for Dead Tree Media leave even less room to handle complex issue.
Still . . . On the bright side, Camp KC has some great info about today's Latino Gay Pride Event that's surprisingly a lot more family orientated other LGBT fests . . . And again this kind of insight and info is one of many reasons TKC contends that following a DIVERSE number of sources is the best bet to really get to know this town.
Luckily, all the relevant links can be found on this blog. Natch.
