WAS IT RIGHT FOR EXEC MIKE SANDERS TO FORGIVE A WEED BUST CONSIDERING THAT HE'S A LEADER OF THE JACKSON COUNTY ANTI-DRUG COMBAT EFFORT???
Check this important note on political forgiveness that might conflict with other job duties for one of Kansas City's power brokers . . .
"Regarding Sanders' convoluted defense of Lafaver, Count Exec Sanders is currently in charge of anti drug tax and he is a former prosecutor"
Check the offending quote:
Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders, who was the head of the Missouri Democratic Party until stepping down this weekend, said being arrested for a small amount of marijuana is not the political career-killer that it used to be.
"Polling is beginning to show the other way, and there's strong support to even legalize this issue, like, over time," Sanders said. "The attitudes of 15-20 years ago are not the attitudes of today. As time goes on, you'll see more and more of a shift in American society in that direction."
So . . .
DOES THAT MEAN THAT COMBAT IS GOING TO STOP BUSTING PEOPLE WHO AREN'T ELECTED OFFICIALS ON WEED CHARGES?!?!
Remember that Jackson County pays MILLIONS into COMBAT and thanks to a recent reorganization the County Executive has a great deal of control over the program. Sadly, because of political affiliation, Exec Mike Sanders doesn't think weed enforcement is a big deal when it comes to someone he's politically affiliated with . . . It remains to be seen if others busted for marijuana will earn the same level of forgiveness.
