LET'S CELEBRATE KJ B-DAY AND THE KANSAS CITY WEEKEND BENDER!!!
Just a few weekend notes for Sunday afternoon . . .
HAPPY B-DAY TO KANSAS CITY HIP-HOP BAD BOY KYLE JAMES!!!
One of our favorite Kansas City rappers turned 25 over the weekend. Remember just about every notable local rapper made a surprise appearance on a remix of KJ's "Bender" theme song. No word on a gift from Mayor Sly James other than more than a bit of political capital BUT we haven't heard about a blowout bash from any other media outlets so we're guessing the celebration was rather calm.
And then . . .
PASSED BY THE JJ'S ANNIVERSARY PARTY ON THE PLAZA, IT WAS A BLAST!!!
This really only concerns the Kansas City petty bourgeois but the weekend JJ's blowout seemed like fun as the old school hangout for mid-level local lawyers and fading ad men struggles to make a comeback.
And then . . .
FINAL CURTAIN THIS WEEKEND FOR AMERICAN HEARTLAND THEATER!!!
Sadly, if Kansas City really cared about this one . . . The last act wouldn't be so forgettable.
MORE IMPORTANTLY . . . A TRIBUTE FOR TWO KANSAS CITY DJ TJ PRICE PASSED AWAY THIS WEEKEND!!!
Super Dave - "T.J. Price passed away. T.J. was the creative genius behind the Max, Tanna & Moffitt morning show on KY. Such an incredible writer and voice talent. TJ was probably best known to the KY's audience as 'Major Gridlock' delivering goofy traffic on the station. He was also the (controversial?) funny creator and voice of KY's popular 'Learning to Spell with Darnell' features. Damn they were funny.
And once certain pressures forced the popular feature off the air, TJ came right back pretending to be KY's local sales manager. Selling spots over the air at 'a dollar a hollar'---which pissed off the regular sales manager if memory serves me correct. Cause of death as of now is unknown"
Additionally . . .
"There has been a lot posted on social media tonight about the passing of DJ Jerry Griffith . . . Jerry was always there at Pride festivals, dance parties and well known in other cities for his great work as a DJ, which he did when not working in his day job as a fireman."
Last one . . .
Best Kansas City Sunday Night Line we were gifted:
"They are using the hashtag #popfest because #cokefest was too obvious"
