TKC FACT CHECK: BUS GUARD DO-GOODERS COULDN'T POSSIBLY KEEP METRO SAFE AS KANSAS CITY'S SOCIAL CONTRACT BREAKS DOWN AND ATA VIOLENCE SPIKES!!!
Recently, Rev. Tony Caldwell of Peacekeepers promised that his group would help to keep local buses safe amid an outbreak of violence plaguing the Metro.
Now . . .
Here are some recent facts & stats regarding the scope of Kansas City's ATA . . .
- The metro covers 398 square miles in seven counties . . .
- Average Weekday Ridership: 50,000+
- Total Annual Ridership: . . . In 2012 Metro ridership exceeded 16.1 million trips, the second highest annual ridership in nearly two decades.
- Fleet Size: More than 265, including 28 MAX vehicles
Accordingly . . .
THERE'S NO WAY A GROUP OF WELL-MEANING BUT MISGUIDED VOLUNTEERS WILL BE ABLE TO KEEP THE BUS SAFE FROM RECENT VIOLENCE . . . POLICE MIGHT NOT EVEN BE ABLE TO DO IT!!!
Why?
Look at the numbers . . . The scope of Kansas City's ATA is immense and relative peace on the bus is really only due to residents fulfilling their part of the social contract and conducting themselves with some level of decorum so that everyone can ride in peace.
Now . . . This Summer and for quite some time now . . . The social contract, Golden Rule or even the fear of getting caught for an assault in Kansas City seems to be breaking down and that's part of the reason why bus driver attacks and bus stop violence has increased.
It's not even worth mentioning that educating youngsters and some nasty adults on the basics of conflict resolution might be a worthy goal . . . The very least we can do is warn innocents on the bus to be very careful . . .
Also . . . Here's hoping the toy train has money left over for better security even if it will more clearly demonstrate Kansas City's misplaced priorities and political hypocrisy.

I think the ATA needs an aggressive "No Guns on the Bus" PR campaign and more signs on the busses to make it clear that THEY MEAN BUSINESS!

ReplyDeleteThe Metro my cover 398 square miles, but all of the violence has taken place in just one small area. So yes, these guys CAN do some good, because they only have to focus on the hood routes.

ReplyDeleteI am a 76yo white male. My eyesight is so bad they will not renew my drivers license so I must use KCATA. I recently wrote The Star which I believed they posted online but not in print that people want to take my gun however any person that boards a ATA bus south of the river is a FOOL if they do so without a pistol in their pocket. When I was young i use to say that some day I might be shot or cut but if I were it would be in my ass because I would be going the other way call me a coward if you wiish. At this age I have to stand and fight because I cant run so yes believe me when you see me on the bus I have a pistol in my pocket and I will use it at the risk of being called George Zimmerman

However, the powers that be like for Kansas City to be just as it is, divided along racial lines. Black people wake up! Stand together! There is power in numbers. Tell your children to stop acting a fool in school. Get what your WHITE Teacher is teaching or demand to be taught by all of their teachers. At one time black people stood together and changed this country. It can happen again! You have the power!
