Judging from KCPD response . . . This proof clearly indicates that Mr. Washington's warnings about violence were in line and accurate with other information on local Trayvon rioting threats which were addressed expertly by KCPD. In other words, Alonzo Washington's warnings reveal his dedication to thwarting violence and ensuring cooperation between the community and police.

To me it seemed business as usual in fact in the bars people wasn't even really talking about it, was like ok jury said not guilty so he must not be. Shootings left at least 8 people on the South and West sides wounded overnight, according to police. Three of the shootings happened between 4:50 and 5:40 a.m., police said. A 60-year-old woman was shot in the chin about 4:50 a.m. in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. Police said she wasn't the target and are investigating whether she was stuck in crossfire between two shooters. She was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in stable condition. About a half hour later a 33-year-old man was shot in the left leg in the 1300 block of North Ridgeway Avenue. He's in stable condition at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. A 17-year-old boy was shot in the 7200 block of South Halsted Street in Englewood about 5:35 a.m. Someone walked up and shot him in the upper part of his right arm, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said. He's in good condition at Saint Bernard Hospital and Healthcare Center. Someone shot a 19-year-old woman in the Austin neighborhood about 3 a.m. She may have been wounded in an exchange of gunfire between two people in the 800 block of North Parkside Avenue, police said. She was hit in the shoulder and taken to an area hospital. Two boys, 14 and 15, were shot in the 5900 block of South Laflin Avenue and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. The boys were both shot in their legs and are both in good condition, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said. Another man, 38, was shot in the 100 block of South Springfield Avenue about 11:30 p.m. He was hit in the leg and is in stable condition at Mount Sinai Hospital. Gaines said police apprehended the shooter after he caused a fatal car crash at Chicago and Pulaski avenues. A 72-year-old woman sitting on her porch in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood was shot about 8:30 p.m. Police said she was not the target. She was hit in the arm and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital from the 6200 block of South Richmond Avenue.
There have been 20 homicides in first week of July.

"Whether the shot was in self defense or not is immaterial." Actually that's all that matters and that's all the case was about. Nothing that happened before played into this. Was Zimmerman an over zealous neighborhood watchman? Sure. Did that give Trayvon the right to beat him to death? Certainly not. If Zimmerman's story is true, then he was in the right. But Zimmerman doesn't have to prove that his story is true. The state has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he killed Trayvon in malice. They failed to do that. It may seem like a high standard but you'll be thankful for it if you're ever falsely accused of a crime.
ReplyDeleteIt has always amazed me that a jury can sit through an entire trial, listen to all the testimony, look at all the evidence, deliberate after instructions from the judge, then finally come to an educated decision in the case only to have a bunch of numbnuts second guess them because they read about the case in the newspaper a couple times and watched a few shows on CNN that highlighted the case. Don't these people understand our judicial system? More importantly, don't they understand the threat to our judicial system they present?

ReplyDeleteRealize that the prosecution and defense understood exactly the same reality. It was their duties to present both stories to the best of their ability. If Zimmerman were the perpetrator, evidence would have arisen to demonstrate the fact, but nothing was ever definitively presented to implicate him as such. We must work with what data exists to form the most complete and valid image of the truth that we possibly can. We did, and Zimmerman was set free.

ReplyDeleteI did....Before I went there, I saw many black men not able to get through the doors because of the way they dressed, they didn't have a credit card or simply because they were in a group of other blacks.
The few who were there could stand out like a soar thumb. Out of every ten people, nine were white, and one were either black or hispanic.
They were harassed, always followed by security. It was disgusting. Yesterday I made my mind up to never go back to that place again.
