The Latest From Congressman Cleaver Tonight!!!

TKC Note: Congressman Cleaver joins Kansas native Health And Human Services Sec. Kathleen Sebelius tomorrow at 2:00 in Independence at Truman Memorial Hall for a Town Hall on healthcare and ACA for veterans, their families, and others . . .

Right now here's a note from his office on student loans . . .

DON’T DOUBLE THE RATE

We can’t do this to American students!!

Students are working hard. Families are working hard to make sure their children can go to college. And those in college are working hard to make the grade. Yet Congress is not working hard enough to make sure they can afford to stay there.

The student loan issue is, in my opinion, a crisis. On July 1st, student loan rates will double. This will impact 7.4 million students in this country, as the subsidized Stafford loan rates will increase from 3.4% to 6.8%.

As it is already, student loan debt exceeds credit card debt. This increase could put college well out of reach for millions of students. This is unacceptable. Congress needs to act, and should have already, to keep this from happening.

Hardworking American families are already carrying $1 trillion in student loan debt. We should be working to ease this – not make it worse. That is the message I have received time and time again from people throughout Missouri’s Fifth District. And it is a message I have heard – loud and clear.

I have signed onto the discharge petition to prevent rates from doubling. And I am working with my colleagues, on both sides of the aisle, to encourage them to also sign onto this effort, and keep our kids in the classroom.

I believe we should be working to educate our young people, strengthen our economy and our middle class, and ensure their success.

I want to make sure I know what you think – and that Congress hears you. Please share your story about how doubling your rate will impact your life or your family. You can visit my Facebook page to express your thoughts: https://www.facebook.com/emanuelcleaverii.

  1. While I can't stand this guy (he is a Congressman after all) I do agree with this. Student loans should not be allowed to double. Especially when the treasonous banks get to borrow money from the gov't at 0% and then turn around and loan it to our corrupt gov't for 3%.

  3. College tuition is a waste of money. Good luck getting a job with a History degree etc etc.

Learn a trade, aquire some skills.

This is a short, great article on how colleges are scamming the fuck out of your kids and your bank account.

  4. Cleaver is right on this.

Here are a couple of quotes from the article I linked above.

"The rich and connected benefit from the escalation of college costs because it prices middle-class kids out of the market. For the 1%, a bill of $20,000 or $60,000 isn’t much different. But suddenly Junior’s chances of getting in to Prestige U. are a lot better, since many will decide they can’t afford to apply. College is a luxury good again, like $3,000 Italian shoes. Great news for those who can afford it.

Fancier sports arenas and drama facilities just add to the exclusivity. Indeed, astonishingly, I have seen one or two “conservative” writers actually complain that good public colleges are underpriced. Berkeley, they say, should raise its prices to equal those of Stanford.

After all, you don’t want to let in the riffraff!"

  5. One more--

Meaanwhile there’s a second group who are in on the conspiracy: the media.

    The reason? Self-interest.

Some members of the media already work in the Complex. They teach in colleges, or they hold down some cushy sinecure in a university’s “media institute” or think tank. Many more journalists have friends, or family, who are employed by a college. And still more journalists are hoping to land college jobs themselves one day.

Consider the deafening media silence over the phenomenon of graduate degrees in journalism, where young people are scammed out of $30,000 or more for the privilege of earning a certificate to practice a dying craft. Working journalists, in private, all agree how utterly crazy and ridiculous it is that young people are still going to journalism school. I hear this all the time.

But good luck finding much commentary about it in public. The reason? J-school no longer exists to teach the journalists of tomorrow (if it ever did) but to employ the journalists of yesterday. Every reporter awaiting the dreaded Next Round of Layoffs has J-School lined up as Plan B. Good luck getting that job, though, if the hiring professor’s Google search of your recent articles turns up a scathing expose of journalism school. You’ll end up at Starbucks instead.

    Once again, Cleaver is right.

  8. How low was the interest rate on the car wash loan that Deadbeat Cleaver defaulted on, was sued for, and now has a judgment against him?

Reverend Deadbeat is probably well qualified to speak about student loans. Cleaver knows all about borrowing money and refusing to pay it back.

See a therapist. Cleaver was elected by a majority of the voters. Get over it. You sound like a petulant child. Jesus, bitch, your name isn't Byron. I don't know what your name is. Do you remember what your name is?

  22. This jig is totally fucking worthless. First, as a shitty Mayor and now as a Congressman. What a waste of air and water... What's next? Senator Asshole???

  23. What we need are cheaper car washes. Show 'bout working on that Congressman.

  24. 7:55, if the people of stupidly elect McCaskill, anything is possible, but Cleaver tried to steal from the City as mayor when he took his entire family to Disneyworld using a city credit card. He paid up only after getting caught. He's made sure federal funds were wasted but his friends were well taken care of with the failed Green Impact Zone. He created the spending hole that is 18th and Vine and continues to find funds to throw into that mess even today. He race baits ("That guy spit on me!").
More recently, he refuses to pay back an SBA loan on his car wash and now owes in the area of $1.5 million. But will he pay?
Cleaver is unfit for office. He should step down, but at the very least, he should not be returned to office.

  25. At least Cleaver gets it right on something. If we don't act, I'm even more screwed in terms of my loan payments. Basically they'll get an extra $60 dollars from me each month if they prevent it.

FUCK college. And here I thought getting a chick knocked-up or having a divorce would be a mistake. Ha! I was wrong. Going to college was the most financially-draining thing I've accomplished. Fuck, why don't they just waive off the loans. My degree is virtually worthless anyway. It may sound like the most ignorant thing, but trust me, the only education is SELF-education.

    ReplyDelete
  26. How about just fuck Cleaver? I'd spit on the son-of-a-bitch too, if I could get away with an assault charge..
