COUNTY ASSESSOR QUITS BUT WILL VOTERS BE SATISFIED WITH SACRIFICE OF JACKSON COUNTY FALL GUY?!?!

Here's a rather obvious sign that Jackson County political elite are SCARED of the consequences of a property tax mess:

The Jackson County assessor resigned Friday, over controversy surrounded flawed home assessments. The county has not accepted the resignation yet.

Jackson County assessor resigns over thousands of flawed notices

Jackson Co. Assessment Director offers to resign over assessment problems

This resignation confirms what Jackson County Insiders have been saying from day one but it's not clear if this sacrificial lamb will solve a bigger problem.

Accordingly . . .

JACKSON COUNTY INSIDERS STILL DON'T THINK THE PROPERTY TAX ASSESSMENT HOT MESS IS SIMPLY A BUREAUCRATIC PROBLEM!!!

One insider asks:

"They're trying to blame this on everyone including the State of Missouri. If so, why doesn't STL, Clay and Platte County have the same problem? This is is about politics and not broken software."

And so . . . The Friday firing move might seem savvy to politicos but simply raises more questions about who's really in charge down at the Courthouse.

  1. Actually, the black helicopters have a maintenance garage at the downtown airport. Drones also seen in the KC Metro on many occasions.

  2. Removing Koons was necessary but not sufficient. More will have to happen, because the assessment process has been fucked for a long time -- actually there is no process.

There will have to be more steps taken, which will mean spending some money on the public business for once and not just fireworks displays.

    I expect that will happen.

I doubt that there will be County funded fireworks shows for a while. The bread and circuses approach to rebuilding public confidence is the least effective tactic.

  4. That's what this town needs. People who cause harm in positions of power should resign. To start the list:

    Sylvester James

  6. Do not blaspheme the September 14 Rally6/21/13, 4:53 PM

Liberal idiots, the Missouri Town event is not a Bread and Circuses show, it is a rally to honor tradional America which you all hate.

    1. Maybe Paula Deen will show up and grease your Bread & Circus show with a liberal amount of butter. Complete with middle aged black men dressed in long sleeved white jackets to serve all the traditional American white folks wearing thier pointy white hats?
Sounds like a plan to me. After all, we ALL came to America for the "freedom", right?

  7. Sly James is the biggest arrogant pox on Kansas City that's happened in a long time.

Sanders will be the one who will pay dearly for fucking the public on this one. One look at the front page article on KC Star about preferential tax treatment is enough to sink this pussy. All his opponent needs to do is a good mailer on this one, and he's DONE.

  8. The assessments are still screwed up. Maybe they need to fire a few more bureaucrats and cut back on expenses down there at the county palace.

  9. Holy fuck! Is that a statue of Andrew Jackson??? The dude that implemented an "Indian Removal" program? I can't believe you people put up a statue of that shithead. What the fuck Kansas City. Seriously, do y'all have a statue of Hitler here too? This place is more racist than anywhere I've been in Alabama.

  10. It's not going to screw Sanders b/c the rich got a break. They vote and contribute to campaigns.

  11. Actually those small bronze statues you see around were modeled from the Nazi's.

  13. 5:40: Jackson County. Andrew Jackson. Duh! It was named for him in 1826 when he was still a senator. Please try not to impose 21st Century morals on a 19th Century guy even if he was a pigheaded prick.

  14. The big issue here is not that many assessments were screwed up. It was that many of the political elite have been getting breaks on their assessments confirming Leona Helmsley's assertion that "Only the little people pay taxes."

The ethnic cleansing of the native peoples through "Indian Removal" was controversial even when Jackson did it. So he was wrong then, just like he is wrong now. There is no question of moral relativism.

The only thing that the bigoted old coot got right was calling out the army to stand up to South Carolina's
attempt at "nullification" of federal law. Of course legislators in Missouri and Kansas have stupidly tried to replicate the unconstitutional South Carolina example today.

Other than his stand against Nullification, Jackson was pretty much a moron.

I am sure we could come up with a more worthy person to name the county after.

Sinatra County has a ring-a-ding-ding to it!

  16. Clay, Jackson and Cass all built their political careers on White Supremacy -- so the rancid, mental defectives who organized this area of course named counties after them.

  17. Mike should resign. Go out on top.

  18. Hey I have a great idea how to fix the tax issue. Stop spending tax dollars on unnecessary items like the Jackson County 4th of July show. This must cost the county at least $60,000. That could be two appraisers, wow. Let's see what else could they cut. How about the extra people in the County Executives Office. If the little round woman shelly would quit giving herself a raise car allowance bonus whatever else she gets, that could be another appraiser. How many staff do they need to run the county. Oh I forgot, Mike Sanders isn't there to run it anymore. Seriously, take a look at the frivolous spending and you could pay for the appraisers to do your job right, collecting and distributing taxes.

  19. All governments waste money, that's what politics is about. Jackson County really needs to take a look at their operations and realign in areas that affect the public like this. You can't screw the people through the tax process. Mike Sanders, do us a favor and don't run next time. Take your worthless staff with you and maybe Jackson County will have a chance to save face. Your county is really screwed up!!!

  20. Yeah, my brother used to work there. They get double time on holidays. What about the extra staff that it takes to work the fireworks event. If we would take some of those funds, we could hire assessors. Jackson County citizens stand up, you're being screwed! Mike Sanders is taking the rap but he needs to clean house and get some better people. Koons leaving not really too bad but don't replace it with a political favor. get someone experiences. There's too much hiring of their friends at Jackson
County. Gets worse every day. Get rid of that Shelly person, she's sucking you dry and really is she worth $140,000? Mike ask yourself that question. Look how many appraisers you could hire. Poor excuse that you had to lay off appraisers because of the state's cut. You need to look into the county's finances and make appropriate cuts to put them back in to be good stewards of the county's tax dollars.

  22. This Koons dipshit was one of Cass County's favorite exports. He fucked up down there and was sent packing to the minor leagues of Jackson County..

  23. Anyone who thinks the current assessments are well below market value must have been snoring like hell when the housing crash happened in 2008. I never saw a friggen 20 to 25 percent dip in my assessment nor did my taxes ever go down. My 401K and home value sure as hell flat lined. In the mean time the chicken shits from the county were sitting at their desks scribbling out property assessments.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Tony's last sentence says it all or maybe it should have read, "who's in charge of the county?" When Sanders ran against Wheeler, he slammed Wheeler for stating he would hire someone to run day to day operations.
Wake up people, that is what Sanders did...immediately. He hired Siems to run the county. Now that Siems is basically retired and drawing a huge taxpayer funded paycheck for not being at the courthouse (see access records to parking lot during last 6 months), the s@#$ is hitting the fan. Siems did a good job, when he was working. Assessor is a scapegoat. Now no one is leading or keeping a look out for us taxpayers. Several of my coworkers predicted this years ago - sorry to see they were right.
