TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! JACKSON COUNTY PROPERTY TAX SPIKE RAGE SET TO TAKE CENTER STAGE!!!

Jackson County is in the midst of TAXPAYER REVOLT that some mainstream media outlets want to downplay.

However . . .

JACKSON COUNTY INSIDERS TELL US THAT HOMEOWNERS ARE ALREADY ORGANIZING A ROAD TRIP TO THE METH TOWN COURTHOUSE IN ORDER TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE PROPERTY TAX SPIKE!!!

Jackson County Insiders reveal that most of the complaints are centered in Hyde Park and Midtown where assessments were completely out of whack . . .

Here's the notice that's mostly been kept a dirty, Jackson County secret . . .

"We will be having a representative of the Assessment Department address the Legislature on Monday, May 13th 2013 at 2:30pm at the JACO Independence Courthouse Annex located at 308 W. Kansas Independence, MO 64050 and welcome the public to attend."

Thinking . . .

SHAME ON JACKSON COUNTY POLITICOS FOR PUTTING THIS FORUM OUT IN METH TOWN RATHER THAN BRINGING IT CLOSER TO THE HEART OF LOCAL COMPLAINTS IN HYDE PARK AND OTHER PLACES IN MIDTOWN KANSAS CITY!!!

There's no doubt the meeting location choice is a calculated move so that seniors and the working poor won't have a voice in this strangely timed Midday discussion.

Nevertheless . . . The problem of crazy Missouri property tax assessments dates back for quite some time according to a 2007 blog post that's still relevant. Here's the money quote:

"The problem is not with the use of property taxes to fund local governments. The problem lies in the seemingly arbitrary way in which assessments are set, which leads to a lack of public faith in the property tax system’s fairness in Missouri’s larger and faster-growing counties."

Even worse . . . Property taxes pushed back after media fallout reveals that there is no objective standard for the way Jackson County does business.

More TKC EXCLUSIVE background . . .

- Politicos are desperately trying to pin this one on the County Assessor and the political hot potato has been effectively passed.

- Taking a page from City Hall . . . The blame is being laid with a faulty software program so that no human is on the hook for the major screw-up that has enraged locals.

- While the Missouri General Assembly Session is pretty much kaput . . . This issue has caught the eye of more than a few State Reps. and some change to Assessments in Missouri counties could result from this hot mess.

  1. Major black eye for Mike whether he likes it or not.

  2. The problem IS using property taxes or sales taxes to fund anything. A progressive income tax is the only proper way to raise revenue.

  3. The property tax is a particularly stupid format.

  4. Put a fag in charge of the taxes (like the fagfest) and no-one will ever get another tax bill!

  5. No Tony, the meeting was set in Independence because it was the first legislative meeting to be held after the asseents started rolling out. Give credit where credit is due since you want to quote the email blast that I and hundreds of other residents received from Legislator Williams- the ONLY legislator to immediately to call out the assessment department and hold them accountable. She's the one who requested Koons to address the legislature, no one else had the guts. I'm sure if there is enough interest she'll make Koons's ass do it all over again at the dowtown courthouse.

  6. Enjoy your rental property. Yes, that's right, you just RENT your property from the taxing authorities. Don't pay the rent (tax) and out you go! Oh yes, you must keep up the repairs and insurance while you live in your RENTAL house too. Enjoy!!

  9. Squeaky wheels get action. Of course, the people who speak up and protest get a rollback. Why would the county just grant one to everyone? That's how price increases work-throw them out there and see what sticks. If you get no blowback then it must be acceptable.

  11. You people appreciate nothing! Cynics, all of you! We give you trains, airports with longer lines, new convention hotels and more trains. You respond that you want the pot holes fixed; you want less crime. Ungrateful bastards! We'll give you what you want but but, with all of the wonderful gifts we've bestowed upon you, your taxes must go up! We're not made of money, you know.

Williams approved the budget which had all the high appraisials in it and now that the people found out she wants to fix it a little late Crystal. You gave out money to your favorite non for profit which came out of these taxes so don't think voters are stupid.

  13. Good for Mike Sanders. He should be our next mayor...if he wants to take the pay cut!

Too many people have been skirting along with 350k houses and 50k property tax assessments for too long!

And he has a program specifically for the elderly so they can pay their taxes.

Before I was stuck loaning Mom's property tax bill at the end of the year as well as paying mine. Now because of the 4-pay system Mom can pay the entirety out of her social security check each of the 4 times it comes up in the year.

It was real shitty to have to buy Christmas presents, pay my taxes, and pay moms taxes all at one point in the year.

There hasn't been a lot of things in life where the government has directly made my life easier. But I can say Mike Sanders and his office made it easier for me with the 4 pay thing.

Plus they correctly assessed her house at market rate.

    No complaints here at all.

  16. FYI, the school districts and city get virually all the money raised by property taxes' like 95%. Look at your bill, it makes me sick to see how much money they want. Also, my home appraisal went down, but because the city raised my levy, i actually pay MORE in taxes. How about that! Thank you mayor Sly you asshat!

  17. Everybody is pointing fingers in the wrong direction. Bush and Obama pumped trillions of dollars into the system; inflation had to happen. The government can not even cut the level that it "increases" spending, let alone cutting the amount that it is actually spending.

Neither political party advocates efficient use of our tax dollars. One party just wants to cut the taxes and the other wants to pretend everyday is an emergency.

  21. When city workers who have to live in the city make up such a large part of the tax base how else do you think the city will pay for all the democrats..er..urban poor.

  22. I don't doubt that some people got bad assessments but I don't think it's universal.

We're in the middle of refinancing our house which means I have a very recent appraisal.

That appraisal broke my heart because it's basically 2/3 of what I paid for the place in 2005.

But, even at that amount, the notice I just got from the county was for a lesser market value.

So, I'm keeping my mouth shut.

  23. 5:10pm It's the county appraisals that went up, not the city. And since you don't seem to understand...there are several cities within Jackson County. Your insulting, racist BS is really pathetic when you can't even get your facts straight.

  24. You call it "taxes", I call it "rent". What exactly is the end result difference?? Really!?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Jackson county has to increase taxes on the suburbs also to offset the money drain of the inner city. How else can we pay for whole zip codes on EBT, democrat?
