TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! DESPICABLE KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR MAIN STREET I-670 BRIDGE SHELL GAME EXPOSED BY TKC TIPSTERS!!!

Kansas City streetcar advocates have done nothing but deceive the public and engage in one of the most despicable schemes ever perpetrated on this town since the days of Boss Tom Pendergast.

But let's get specific and go beyond the rigged election championed by Council Dude Russ Johnson - An elected official who now refuses to answer most critical questions.

Let's go street by street and bridge by bridge . . .

To wit . . .

KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS REVEAL THAT CURRENT PLANS TO TAKE THE TOY TRAIN ACROSS THE I-670 MAIN STREET BRIDGE ARE NOT PART OF THE STREETCAR BUDGET AND WILL BE SOLELY THE BURDEN OF KANSAS CITY TAXPAYERS WITH NO HELP FROM THE FEDS OR MoDOT SO FAR!!!

Just ask Council Dude Russ or one of the other toy train cheerleaders a simple question . . .

WHO IS PAYING FOR MAIN STREET I-670 BRIDGE IMPROVEMENTS NECESSITATED BY THE TOY TRAIN STREETCAR?!?!?

The answer will kill faith in Kansas City Democracy and reveal that even our most brilliant political leaders (so-called) are really interested in nothing more than deceiving the public in order to pay for their pet projects.

Credit where it's due . . . A recent KC Biz Journal article did the heavy lifting for this story and is worth reading closely: Streetcar spurs replacement of Main Street bridge over I-670

But since that time KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS have learned even more and EXCLUSIVE information . . .

1. There are no federal funds coming for the Main Street I-670 repair. Tiger funds are a long shot and let's not forget that KC is on the back burner as far as D.C. is concerned.

2. There's NO MoDOT MONEY for Main Street I-670 Bridge repair. Their role remains clearly defined as "supervisory only" and they're broke now anyhoo . . . Just like everybody else under the Jeff City austerity budget.

3. An AWESOME TKC TIPSTER has spoken with City Hall insiders who admit, IN PUBLIC, that KCMO will be forced to finance bridge repair for the Toy Train without help.

Here's the money quote . . .

"I recently spoke with a top ranking city official about the I-670 problem. He said the bridge had around ten years of life left and it was best to replace it now before the tracks were laid. The next words out of his mouth were that the funds were not coming out of the streetcar budget but out of another city fund."

And THAT is the City Hall Toy Train Streetcar shell game.

Right now the cost of replacing the bridge is estimated @ close to $4 million but that's exceptionally kind and before the work has even started.

Once more for the cheap seats . . .

CITY HALL IS SPENDING FOR THE TOY TRAIN STREETCAR CLANDESTINELY WITHOUT EVEN OFFERING THE VOTING PUBLIC A REAL ACCOUNTING OF THE COST!!!

Sadly, this is only one instance where City Hall insiders understand that THE PRICE TAG OF THE KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR is being hidden.

There are more, many more instances of toy train deception from Kansas City politicos who now seem downright sinister given their attempts to push this pet project through at any cost.

DEVELOPING . . .

  6. Save our disrepaired bridges!!!!!

Tell city council you will NOT have bridges repaired in this city, not when there is so much other critical infrastructure that needs to be maintained, like my culdesac in the part of KC that is basically Liberty. Several feet of curbs have chips and tire stains and there are four families that use the culdesac every day.

"Toy Bridges to No Where" should trump the will of the people to have my subdivision's streets repaved so all 150 of us can buy tires for our Volvos less often.!!!!!!!!

  12. If you go to this local board topic on the streetcar you'll find a lot of the local guys who are involved in one way or another in promoting the streetcar, receiving cash from the city and the boycotting of businesses owned by folks who have come out publicly against the streetcar.

Most are downtown/Crossroads renters who are IT nerds/beer nerds and own nothing of value, especially property and tend to frequent The P&L district, especially The Flying Saucer and are more than happy to let downtown property owners foot the bill for their vision of a new K.C. that resembles their Utopia, Portland, Oregon.

You can also find them on Twitter, espousing their vision of a Utopia paid for by the taxpayers.

Be forewarned, they are a nasty bunch and don't take kindly to anyone dissing the toy train.

  14. As we are beginning to see the streetcar planning has been awful. What provisions have been made for River Market parking? The route appears to be taking a lot of existing street parking. Once in operation people that are paying to park downtown now will park in River Market for free & ride the free trolley to work. Weekends will be worse, park at River Market & ride to Union Station, Crown Center, Crossroads, etc. I believe it is important that the streetcar people become committed to fund and build the parking garages that will be required.

  20. about river market parking

when you actually look at the plan you'll realize the total loss of spots is maybe 2 or 3 spots.

considering there's around 1000 public spots in the river market I'm not worried

    ReplyDelete
  21. as for parking

there's enough spots downtown to have every single resident and worker with a single car, fill the sprint center and Bartle Hall to capacity and have left over spaces

    we don't need more parking

  32. City Halls Pledge of Allegiance . . Recited before every closed door meeting.

I no longer believe that freedom and democracy are compatible. The public doesn't support unregulated, winner-take-all capitalism and so we don't support the public making decisions.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Dave came to my neighborhood meeting and Matt joined me for lunch so they could attempt to dissuade my criticisms with bullshit streetcar propaganda. Those guys are the worst, and it would be nice if they'd have the balls to include their names when they want to get snarky here at TKC, although it's generally pretty easy to figure out which ones they are (we know Kevin Carlyle and Russ Johnson are lurking around here too)

Cincinnati is considering cancelling their streetcar project because it's $17.6M over budget. We're WELL beyond that, but the transportation committee keeps bragging that everything is moving along quickly and efficiently. Of course it is! Because they've taken democracy out of the equation and filled the budget holes with "creative accounting." It's dishonest, and SHOULD BE illegal, because they're justifying funds for use on a project that the city was never allowed to vote on.

You guys, whining about the streetcar is nice, but we have to do something about it, or we're going to have expensive road hazards for cyclists all over this city, and cost prohibitive sales/property taxes along struggling commercial corridors like Independence Avenue and Troost.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah Sly fooled some of us. Thought we'd get rid of the developer tit for tat by getting rid of Burke but sadly Sly is just as bad or worse. The middle class, tax-paying normal person - if there is such a thing - doesn't stand a chance in this city.

Guess its hard to see mediocrity change.

For the rest of us, we welcome the future and have waited way too long for meaningful investment in this cities urban core, while watching the suburbanites suck the coffers dry with their subsidized locust like sprawl.

  44. Fucking suckers have been trying to turn this city into a suburb since 1970 and all its got them is blight and blighted suburbs.

This is a CITY. Don't like cities? Get the Fuck Out of ours.

    ReplyDelete
  45. No shit.

That's why they moved here. Suburbs suck. And no one under 40 wants to live in one.

    ReplyDelete
  46. You know a side knows its lost when it makes personal attacks and brings up names

Because it means they have nothing of substance to show for their point

Just like the group that couldn't find 150 people of the thousands who didn't vote in the election to say no. I can't imagine that would have been that hard to do.

Or was it that no one cared enough to be against it beyond complaining online?

Remember, every citywide tax increase in the past two years has passed. This city ignores pessimistic wanna be libertarians that ignore that this vote fulfills their libertarian goal.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Take a look at the Streetcar Authority (lack there of) Board. Not a single mass transit or streetcar professional - including Russ "I know it all" Johnson! The board will make operational decisions and have done already that will cost Kansas City taxpayers Millions in cost overruns and ongoing operating cost!!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I drive around the downtown loop, which includes I-670, whenever I go downtown - just to see the complexity of the infrastructure and the downtown skyline. And now I have another reason - just to piss you people off!

So get out of my way when you see me driving around the downtown loop!!!

  49. Typical railroad job for local government. They're never honest with how the money is spent. They can only win by changing the game and hiding the facts.

  52. "For the rest of us, we welcome the future and have waited way too long for meaningful investment in this cities urban core, while watching the suburbanites suck the coffers dry with their subsidized locust like sprawl."

Oh yeah. We need a 1940-style streetcar from River Market to Crown Center. That's going to help those who really need transportation. Not.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Nobody under 40 wants to live in the suburbs? How about nobody with a school aged child wants to live south of the river because this city spends all of our money on economic development projects that are destined to fail.

We have a higher murder rate per capita than Chicago, and a provisionally accredited school district. Give urban neighborhoods the tools they need to fix up houses and fight crime. Repair old infrastructure so that people don't have to move to a newly built subdivision for a nice sidewalk and a sewer that doesn't back up.

You guys with your fuckin' streetcar don't see anything but a free party bus. You have no regard for how to efficiently manage a city, and you've romanticized this idea that public transit is going to generate revenue. Public transit eats money, but it's necessary, so it should be done as efficiently as possible. More buses and better technology would improve this city more than a two mile train would.
