TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! COULD 'MAYOR'S NIGHTS' MAKE KANSAS CITY YOUTH VIOLENCE WORSE?!?

Mayor's Nights for Kansas City represent the same old school plan to quell youth violence championed by more than 20 years ago.

Former Kansas City Mayor Emmanuel Cleaver popularized the idea focusing on urban youth in the early 90s. TKC Full Disclosure: Yes, a much younger TKC even attended a few "Hot Summer Nights" and "Night Hoops" activities.

Anyhoo . . .

The latest manifestation of this program is well meaning but overlooks a tragic circumstance . . .

THERE'S A POSSIBILITY THAT MAYOR'S NIGHTS MIGHT ACTUALLY MAKE KANSAS CITY YOUTH VIOLENCE EVEN WORSE!!!

Example . . .

Last year mainstream media covered up a really bad night at the College Basketball Experience in Downtown KC . . . Sure, the program was great and it was all fun and games until the event shut down and kids were let out into the streets of Downtown KC near the P&L district.

Even worse . . . Since that time, loitering danger and youngsters hanging around P&L has been a new problem within the loop.

Basically . . . Kansas City youth programs are not and never will be a substitute for good parenting. In fact, there is the very real possibility that these youth programs could create problems of their own.

DEVELOPING . . .

  1. Quiet TKC.

The Mayor has a streetcar to run!

  2. "Hot Summer Nights" and "Night Hoops" activities.

And what did we get for this brilliant approach? Hoodlums, gangsta's, shootings, rolling gun battles, teenage flash mobs, bad rap music.

  3. Can't the parents just lock these kids in their basement from 5:00PM Friday until 8:00AM Monday?

That would produce miraculous results without taxpayers having to fork out to retrain and contain Generation Lost Cause.

  5. Tony you hit the nail on the head. Government programs are not a good substitute for good parenting. Just another example of the government becoming a nanny state and hooking people on government dependence at a young age.

  6. This program is racist because it only caters to the black kids.

    1. No your statement is racist. I have personally seen children of all races at the Mayors Night. It's just simple math. The majority of the population in the areas where the mayors night are held are predominately Afrrican American. If you were to install the same type of program in Lee's Summit it would be predominately white. Would that make it racist because a majority of the population in that area is white?

    2. That's funny. When the police department concentrates most of its manpower in the "urban core" to address the disproportionate amount of violent crime that happens there, we still get accused of racial profiling.

  7. what happened to the paved track in swope park that cleaver had built for the kids to park their cars on and play loud music

  8. 3:07 you just shot your own foot. You just said "where the Mayor's Night are held". If they were help in northeast it would be Hispanic or Asian, the fact is everything is catered toward the black area's, and black youth. As soon as any issue is brought up it's racist being screamed. Take care of your own house and your own kids. It's not the cities job to do it for you.

  11. There are only two things the city should do:
    1. arrange for community centers to have hours similar to surrounding areas. For example North Kansas City's facility is open til 10 pm Mon-Fri and 8 pm Sat and Sun. Here is the link: http://www.nkccc.org/pview.aspx?id=15411
Same thing at least at this one in Overland Park: http://www.opkansas.org/things-to-see-and-do/community-centers/hours/
Then it should be up to the churches and community organizations to rent the place out or set up the programs.

    2. The city could offer more youth jobs at the zoo, etc. They used to have CETA and JOY jobs back in the day and you didn't have this mess.

Again the main groups setting up the programs should be churches, non-profits, black greek letter organizations, lodges and so forth.

Now I suspect a lot of this is already in place. The real problem is that you are dealing with a fringe element in the black community (sizable but still fringe) that is not paying attention to anything. These are the people Bill Cosby complained about. And yes I am black and I agree with him.

  12. Why don't we leave childcare up to the teenagers parents?

  13. 40,000 collegiate niggers....I know....let's assume some are actually in college....... turned out in Virginia Beach for Beach Week aka black Spring Break. Over 900 calls to 911 in one night alone. Rape, assault, battery, theft, shootings, stabbings. Typical nigger behavior. We are not alone KC.

  14. cheapest, cheesiest graphic ever! evah! This needs more velveeta. Reminds me of the british knights shoe logo. And the rivets or screws or whatever aren't structurally sound.

  15. Mayor's nights translates to NIGGER nights in Kansas City. Of course, every night is NIGGER night in KC. Get used to it, poor, white sheep. NIGGERS are large and in charge of KC.

  16. I stand by the Mayor. Tony, please delete N-word guy. He is a shame to your great blog.

  17. The racial comments from the white people do not make this situation better. You are no different than the black people to target white people. Get a clue.

  18. 2:55 You're right. This program is 100% racist. Instead of making parents be responsible for their own kids, these types of programs are enlisted to babysit. Kansas City creates more problems than it solves. I guess not one of these kids are having a birthday party. What happen to a basic slumber party? Outings with the family. More reflection on how a child will be reared throug adulthood is what is needed.

  20. 6:07 MUST be deleted! The poster is a cocksucker, without a doubt!!

  21. It's a great idea. The police and ambulances will know where to concentrate their resources and the kids won't have to get a ride to the Plaza or walk back home refugee-style after their Hot Summer Night Shooting.
