There is a great deal of equivocating in a recent statement about Missouri school takeover bills from MO NAACP leader Mary Ratliff . . . But in the end, she eventually comes down on the side of support for school takeover bills in Missouri.
And so . . .
MISSOURI NAACP BASICALLY IN SUPPORT OF SCHOOL TAKEOVER LEGISLATION AS A MOTIVATING FACTOR MEANS THAT THERE ARE FEWER DIE-HARD FANS OF KCPS REFORM EFFORTS AND THERE'S AN INCREASING DEMAND FOR RESULTS!!!
Money quote . . .
"If passed, these two bills would not go into effect until August 31, 2013. By then the Kansas City School District would have completed its first year of reforms under DESE's Current Supervisory model. The Missouri NAACP therefore supports Amendments to both S-7 and H-50 to allow the Kansas City School District the extra year it needs, if justifiable and supportable by the facts on the ground, to continue its progress toward regaining provisional accreditation."

She is supporting the amendment to the bill that KCPS lobbied for. Sounds like she is on the side of KCPS.
After watching the board members now and previously onboard, it would seem that the citizens in the District really aren't very good and finding the best policymakers.
And shit falls downhill. Additionally, the media, which COULD cover schools very well aren't really welcome in the schools to get parental buy-in.
Not sure the media really wants to hire the staff to cover education and health care and other important things not found easily and cheaply on the media internet pages. Television really doesn't have a lot of experienced reporters anymore. Its all about weather and shuck & jive liveshots in front of police tape.
Fillin time between commercials is all they do. And of course the illusion of news during ratings.
That's what you get when out of town corporations own your teevee stations!

Airick won as a write-in candidate which is a pretty mean feat.
The thing is: He's doing work nobody else wants or cares to do. I think he deserves at least a modicum of appreciation for this fact.
Im not Airick. He writes much better than I do, but I am much prettier than him.
KCPS is improving. Why have the state takeover when they are showing improvement? If you look at St Louis, they are just now showing improvement and the state has been in charge since 2007.
If anyone had any clue how much time Airick and the other school board members devote to the district, you probably wouldn't be so quick to judge him. He has devoted his life to this. He/they don't get paid for any of this.
They have tried and they have failed. It's time for new leadership.
We don't deny their efforts, we just can't see any results.
Where is the PROOF that things are improving?

The amendment is as follows:
“Any unaccredited district that shows continuous academic improvement towards regaining full or provisional accreditation, passes a governance review by their DESE area supervisor, and maintains a balanced budget, shall be granted an additional year to regain provisional or full accreditation.”
