TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! EGAD!!! KANSAS CITY TURNS ITS BACK ON ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE 2013!!!

Like it or not, here are some fun facts about today's smallish Kansas City St. Patrick's Day Parade . . .
THE CROWD FOR THE KANSAS CITY ST. PADDY'S DAY PARADE WAS AT AN ALL TIME LOW!!! DON'T BLAME THE WEATHER, IT HAS BEEN WORSE AND DRAWN GREATER ATTENDANCE!!!
On the bright side, Maria Menounos and her green, tight dress booty kinda makes it a bit better.
Nevertheless . . .
Like it or not, the rejection of the atheists as part of the parade put a damper on the festivities and reminded us that Kansas City's Irish celebration isn't as inclusive as we would like to believe . . .
Even worse . . .
BEHIND THE SCENES, THE TREND IN KANSAS CITY HAS BEEN TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE BIG PARADE AND HAVE SMALLER NEARLY PRIVATE CELEBRATIONS LIKE SNAKE SATURDAY IN BROOKSIDE!!!
In fact . . . This year "Snake Saturday" was a much bigger deal among the traditional KCMO Irish set and the Kansas City, MO parade was more of an afterthought for marching bands and other off-brand white people without a real connection to the old school Irish who used to run this city - Anybody with even a modicum of understanding about KC's Irish community knows what I mean . . . If not, go ask former Mayoral Candidate Mike Burke.
To wit . . .
IS IT TIME TO CANCEL THE ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE IN KANSAS CITY FOR NEXT YEAR?!?!?
Clearly, attendance and enthusiasm for the parade is dwindling and it's not like we need one more festival blocking city streets at the behest of a community that has mostly moved outside of city limits.
DEVELOPING . . .

Be nice TKC. For the most part the Irish tolerate the Mexicans.
Remember San Patricio!
Fucking idiot. The weather was terrible today.
St. Pats was a bust, nobody out much. Parade dead, Westport dead, P and L dead. Dead, Sunday plus cold weather killed it, so sad. Even Kellys had no line.
T, Snake Saturday is in NKC not in Brookside. Two separate events, each with fewer niggers than the KCMO parade and far more family friendly.
Snake Saturday was in Brookside too.
The call it the st. pat's warm up:

People didn't like them excluding groups from the parade. I would not go because o'that.
If they are going to use the parade to foster religion or other forms of superstition then they should not receive government support.
I have always wondered why a group tied to the Catholic Church was able to secure so much tax money to put on a show. As a Protestant I am offended.
About the same weather as I remember from 2007's downtown event. The weather was horrible as was the "parade". Haven't been to one since. Interesting enough the Legends was packed today.
Brookside and NKC Snake Parade were awesome. KCMO should cancel their parade until the streetcar arrives. Streetcar is suppose to revitalize downtown so once it is running KCMO's will be fine.
Went to the Lee's Summit parade Sat. It was small, but fun.
I be celebrating in Brookside eternally because I want to avoid them who are not me kin.
Long live the kilt!
KCMO Parade has been going down hill for a while. I think ever since that year were that black kid was arrested with his Mac 10. Too many black and latino youths throwing gang sings. Too many black and latino youths with Mac 10s. People just dont want to go to it anymore. I'm sure the American Royal Parade has the same problems.
Pogue Mahone TKC!!!
Signed,
Everyone
I can see why it has been trending downward the last few years. There may have been many factors that can be attributed to the low turn out today, but I do believe it is going to be the norm for the future.
I have not been in a few years, since they changed the route. I've heard many people complain about it, though.
Years ago it was a great, fun way to spend a day playing hookie with your kids. Now it's become a "let's skip work and see how shitfaced we can get" day while the kids are at school.
Then you have the groups of thugs that are just looking for targets. I was there on the bridge the year there were shots fired in front of the KC Star building, it was extremely chaotic and there was no way the KCPD could have controlled anyone in that crowd. Since then, I've been a victim of pick pocketing, more than once, car burglary, and have had friends have worse things happen to them. One KCPD officer told me I was an idiot for even going to the parade in the first place.
Now we can add irrational fear of being murdered while we're down there to the list of reasons NKC and Brookside seem to be so much more appealing these days.
Way the fuck too much "Diversity" for 9:10.
Can't blame him.
I really doubt anyone gives a hill of beans about the atheists being banned - other than the 10 people who read this blog. The economy is bad, KC is just milking the public on these festivals and stuff and this thing is about as Irish as Polish Stew.
Why does a private organization that pays for their parade permit and pays for the time of the police and fire have to let in a group that literally is the EXACT opposite of what St. Patrick did?
Think about your answer and then tell me why you would or would not exclude the Westboro Baptist Church from the KC Gay pride parade.
If anyone wants a laugh, go on FB and ask for an invite to the kc redditors facebook. Those are your faces of KC atheism. Couldn't pick the faces better out of central casting!
Even from the time I was a kid the KC St Patrick's day parade was always rainy, cold and underwhelming.
The difference now is that all the nice places like OP, Brookside, NKC, Lee's Summit, Martin City all have their own parades and you don't need to drive 50 miles to disappoint your child.
9:38- The St. Pats parade recieves both city and county funding, therefore losing its right to exclusivity especially based on religious or lack thereof preferences.
Did that girl take a dump in her diaper she's wearing under the green dress?
lolz on the diaper
The parade is actually pretty darn inclusive. The only limit seems to be you can't be a critic of the namesake of the parade. You can be a member of a group that obviously disagrees with him, you just can't express that disagreement in the parade.
The KCMO Westport parade will be fine. A lot of people don't like taking kids to that parade. And a lot of people are able to follow a forecast and see that Saturday was going to be nicer than Sunday for a parade.
It is true that the secondary parades continue to grow. And that's not surprising--they are the sort of parade that many of us remember. Low key, friendly, safe for kids.
The KCMO parade doesn't receive city funding or county funding. It pays for its expenses, just like any other group would do. It used to be that people recognized that marching in the streets is something you could do without agreeing with the government or the majority of other citizens. Now apparently the rule some want is that you can't use the streets unless you agree with them. Sad.
9:10 speaks the facts. I'll like to be hearing more.
10:25 sounds like a wee old shill from that O'neill clan me thinks.
So we are going to see the WBC at the Gay pride parade? What right do Gay people have to have a parade? People can't just go marching down the street in this country! Everyone gets to be included....you can all piggyback on the original parade permit, thus allowing a parade of infinite length that never ends and I never have to go to work because I can't cross Grand Avenue.
You can't force the Irish to march with NIGGERS. They'll just stay home or forget about the fucking parade and most don't blame them either.. NIGGERS ruin everything!
3/18/13, 2:39 AM I say include WBC in Gay Pride and let the court of public opinion provide the verdict.
3/17/13, 9:38 PM
So you are confirming that this parade is a religious event for the purpose of proselytizing a faith?
If so, then the parade committee should reimburse the city for every dime it spends on supporting the parade.
The parade committee is a private entity and as such can reject an application. It receives no money from the city or county, but rather holds fundraisers all year to pay expenses. The parade is not put on by the City. It is planned and organized by a committee of volunteers who work year round.
If we're going to cancel events based on attendance, how about we cancel Cinco do Mayo festivities as well?
7:33 must be on the parade committee and get kickbacks because it's right there on the JACO website, under "Outside Agency Funding" with organizations that actually make a real difference in our community like feeding the homeless. You can also, on the JACO website search "parade" under 2012 agenda and see just how much of your tax dollars go to funding parades.
8:21 and don't forget the KCMO funding from the Neighborhood Developement and Tourism Fund... In addition to paying KCPD, KCFD etc.
8:27, please back that up with some facts. Exactly how much does the Parade Committee get from public funds?
It's easy to say they do, quite another thing to prove it.
And Tony? If the weather had nothing to do with this year's poor attendance, are you actually saying that attendance would have been exactly the same if we had Friday's 80-degree temperatures and sunshine?
Now I will admit that after so many years, the St. Patrick's Day Parade may be losing it's novelty. You been to one, you've been to them all.
But . . . St. Patrick's Day is also the unofficial U.S. celebration of the beginning of Spring and the end of winter for Irish and non-Irish alike.
And as such, the parade has always drawn big crowds -- at least when it isn't 30 degrees and spitting snow.
Very true. You've been to one, you've been to them all. Drunks everywhere. Pissing in the street, upchucking, being obnoxious. I guess you have to be Irish to appreciate it.
Well, actually, one reason attendance might be down is that the Parade Committee has taken steps and gone to the expense of additional security to crack down on the "drunks everywhere."
But lordy, yes. That was at one time a horrible problem for the parade, and probably still is even to a lesser degree.
NIGGERS fuck up the Cinco Demayo celebration too. NIGGERS ruin EVERYTHING!
9:38, there hasn't been a Gay Pride parade in Kansas City since 2002.
No, and there shouldn't be either. Stinking fags and dykes.
Shame on you all for your hate language. You can't even put a name to your dirty mouth you cowards. YOU are the reason why KC is so anti-progressive. Absolutely ashamed of you racist, close minded, most likely right wing, bigots. Go to hell.
8:41 stop being a lazy sheep. It's right there on the Jackson County and CIty of KC's website. I tried to paste and copy for you since you seem to be unable to visit any other website besides TKC but I'm posting from my phone and it won't work. The county gives them 5,000
TKC you are delusional as usual....the atheist thing didn't impact the attendance, the weather certainly played a part. So did many other things such as the Big 12, Snake Saturday, but also people have apprehension about their safety.
You want to make it something that it isn't and once again you show your true agenda.
It also doesn't occur to Tony that by agreeing to move the parade and shorten the route considerably, the committee might have been aiming for a smaller, more family friendly event that was over much sooner.
I went to the Brookside and the big parade both are great. The only difference I can see is that drunks are drinking and walking home from Brookside. The Brookside people also are doing a ton of drinking in the front yards. The weather really hurt the attendance yesterday, last they high record highs with an 80 degree day!
The city of KC gives the St. Pat's parade 20k! It's on the city clerk's website!
