THE TKC SUNDAY SPECIAL!!! ANTITRUST KANSAS CITY!!! CITY HALL DISCOURAGES COMPETITION IN KANSAS CITY MARKETS!!!

Kansas City insiders have long acknowledged that doing business in this town can be EXCEPTIONALLY political.

Even worse, among the local elite there seems to be a disdain for competition that impacts this our culture.

To wit . . .

TAKE A QUICK LOOK AT THE VIRTUAL MONOPOLIES SUPPORTED BY CITY HALL AND KANSAS CITY'S ELITE!!!

- Downtown Parking is dominated by one company that spike parking prices by at least 200% during major events.

- Kansas City's regulation of the taxi biz was targeted last year by a lawsuit that claimed "monopolistic practices" were in play.

- Watch a legislative session closely and notice the abundance of one-bid or no-bid contracts awarded to only one or two juggernaut engineering firms.

- Downtown stadium entertainment was handed over to a single company that would rather destroy a community asset than face competition.

- Finally, the fact that an obscure city ordinance bans the sale of 40 oz. booze bottles within City limits is also a free market injustice worth considering.

It seems that even when Kansas City politicos attempt to encourage competition in new industries, they get it wrong.

Example:

ISPs ask city for deal matching Google Fiber's special treatment

Local Kansas City Liberty Activist Tracy Ward laments the situation with the following line:

"It's just frustrating to see that a city can dictate the free market or lack thereof here in KC."

Accordingly, when we talk about the so-called "border war" or a "business-friendly" attitudes . . . It's important to consider City Hall legislation and insider dealing which thwarts competition has also contributed to an ongoing job exodus from Kansas City.

This issue is second to the etax. it's the etax that really drives companies from kc proper.

You are trying to make an issue out of a simple law of economics called supply and demand. The market sets the price...if people will pay $25 to park, vendors will charge $25. If the garages and lots sat empty, the price would go down. It's no different than any other product...the price goes up during high demand. The parking prices are not out of line with other cities. If you don't want to pay the premium price, park a few blocks away, pay less and walk. It's pretty simple.

Is that pink hair natural?

I've seen the downstairs and nope it ain't natural.

8:40 am - I don't understand.

The City's liberal use of no parking signs & parking meters (that haven't been used in years) demonstrates their participation in a conspiracy with parking lot owners.

Did City ever get their money back from the cab company for the ill fated streetcar to haul drunks around? What a wonderful way to spend tax payers dollars.

Anonymous said...

Oh the streetcar bums say they are paying it back as agreed by the city. Just nobody knows what that means.

The empty former Beaumont Club spot will be the next Westport dumb to get all kinds of cash from the city to open another dumb that nobody will like.

Then the same as the drunk wagon it won't pay back and all sorts of reasons will be given as to why not. Sort of like the 15k that will never be seen again from the POSSE.

Huh? Step away from the bong, Habanero. You are in no condition to write. As if that weren't enough..

"It's just frustrating to see that a city can dictate the free market or lack thereof here in KC."

Tracy... don't you have an Occupy event you're supposed to be attending, or something? There is this thing called the Free Market. Everybody spends their money wherever they want and the rest takes care of itself.

What does "downstairs" mean?

Anonymous said...

Everyone downtown is on the take.

You know what will solve this?

Streetcar!

It's cheaper to park in pinkheads oozer.

When Tracy Ward has normal hair, I might pay attention to what she thinks.

Wanna know how free markets work? Look at a hospital bill sometime.

8:13 MISSED THE POINT

So, according to your reasoning, it should be ok for my ambulance (1st to respond) to charge you 2X, 3X, etc., the going rate for emergency care and transport to the ER ?

Those taxidrivers that filed the lawsuit are idiots. Didn't have a case to start with and taking on the City, Yellow and Checker was stupid.

i would like to see her pink pussy bet it tastes like cotton candy

Google is holding a huge amount of cash in the form of deposits from Kansas City residents who applied for service last year. Who is watching that money?

Anonymous said...

8:03, Google is. Now shut the fuck up and buy something online and ignore that Google reads your gmail.

Right. Companies would much rather pay higher property taxes in Kansas themselves than have their employees pay a 1 percent e-tax in KC.

Given that the big ISPs are HUGE cable TV providers that own everything from movie studios, to record labels, to television networks, the only people who ought to be given a break are the subscribers who are being fucking robbed. Anyone old enough to remember the breakup of AT&T and their market share dropping to less than 10 percent just has to be eating up the idea that Google could very well sink TW and Comcraps collective ass.

Tracy Ward hasn't participated in an Occupy GA or Occupy action in over a year ...just go to Facbook/OccupyKC and you will see that tracy ward has never blogged on the fb page and has not been around Occupy KC since last fall. Her statement on TKC is more
in line with Ron Paul than Occupy who makes no demands of the existing economic structure for a piece of the pie

TRACY WARD IS VAPID said...

Who cares what Tracy Ward thinks?

Maybe Lamar Hunt?
