Report: KCPD Chief Forté Works To Prevent Officer-Involved Shootings

KCPD Chief Forté recently asked investigators to prepare a report outlining every officer-involved shooting at KCPD for the last 10 years to see whether there were any patterns we should be on the lookout for.

IMPORTANT DATA:

From 2002 to 2012, KCPD had 132 officer-involved shootings. Of those:

• 47 resulted in a suspect fatality.
• Another 47 resulted in a suspect sustaining serious physical injury but surviving.
• 11 resulted in an officer sustaining a physical injury. One had to retire for medical reasons as a result, and two others continue to recuperate.
• Officer-involved shootings were most like to occur during armed subject and shots fired calls.

How about explaining how a loud-mouthed, nut rushed the stage at the Mayor's State of the City speech and no one tried to stop him until he was throwing a fit on stage?

Would be nice if KCPD Chief Forté asked for a report about why there are not reguldt police patrols in River Market.

Because KCPD doesn't "patrol" anymore, we only have enough people (barely) to respond to the thousands of b.s. 911 calls.

What a joke. Because investigators have all kinds of free time to devote to this dog and pony show. Once again Forte wasting resources.

Chief Forte wants to see if there is a pattern??? WTF??? pattern? How about the fact that thugs and hoodlums in KC are pulling guns and knives on police officers and trying to run them down with cars!!!??? How about the fact that they are pulling their guns to protect themselves!!!??? What, Chief Forte are you attempting to do? reduce the number of officer involved shootings, but advising KCPD officers to not pull their weapons??? Idiot...

Here we go, more pandering to the criminal element and the "community" at the cost of Officer safety

KC is heading towards Detroit territory. Forte is a joke.

Hell I think our chase policy alone has reduced officer involved shootings. Since we let criminals just drive off on a nightly basis without ever finding out why they actually ran, it's surprising that we even corner that many suspects who then decide to slug it out with us.

In a city, make that country, full of inner city murders on a nightly basis; our chief of police wants to address our use of lethal force?

It's a continuation of a pattern of behavior to endear himself to the black community to shield himself from the Board of Police Commissioners. He's determined to make this a black/white issue. It'll end up being the racist, white FOP officers out shooting all the innocent black people!

Maybe the Chief is checking to see if there is indeed something that the dept can train the Officers on to make them safer. Give the guy a break.............

I think that if you ask most officers about the worst moment in their career they would tell you it is when Darryl Forte was chosen as Chief of the KCPD.

@6:29 that could only be true if he cared about his officers, everyone knows he doesn't so that is impossible.

Better to state were looking at ways to protect officers rather than we're looking at ways to reduce officer involved shootings. Officers don't a always have the opportunity to decide when or if they'll find themselves in a situation requiring deadly force. If I was chief for a day I'd say when fuckheads pull a gun or knife on my officer and try to kill them I want him or her to have the best training and equipment available to smoke the fucker as quickly and expediently as possible to eliminate the threat and get my officer home safely to his family. Forte's message doesn't seem to convey that sentiment. Seems to be something else if reading between the lines. Sad.
