Kansas City Insiders Consider The KCPD Deputy Chief Jerry Gallagher Retirement
Couldn't agree more with most of the thoughtful sentiments in this article . . .
Retired deputy police chief Jerry Gallagher was a tenacious leader
Even more importantly . . .
Kansas City Insiders note that Deputy Chief Gallagher was a strong supporter of Chief Forté. As with any important retirement, there's some question/speculation about the motives for leaving beyond the reasons stated . . . But the fact is: The notable departure contributes not only to concerns about a "brain drain" among Kansas City's police force but also to a consolidation of power betwixt what two differing KCPD's worldviews - Yes, I'm being vague but we'll talk more about it later.

ZZZZZ ! Slow news day.
...and yet you seem to start your day here religiously.
Not much going on?
LOL.... and so do you.
this was a good story about a sad issue. TKC was right to mention the brain drain. we need better promotions through the ranks and not what's currently going on.
KCPD has people with brains?
Could have fooled me.
Read the article. pretty good. I like the part..."He relentlessly pressed Chief Darryl Forté to launch a task force into what he thought was the work of a serial killer"
KCPD has poor leadership. And this article proves it. KCPD has become a poorly run organization.
KCPD has lost the trust of the average citizen. No trusts kcpd.
thanks for the large kcpd car picture.
He disagreed with forte so bad on how the dept should be run that he finally retired. He was the colonel of the patrol bureau but forte took away so many bodies that he felt he couldnt safely run the bureau.
Geeze, are there more Deputy Police Chiefs or Assistant City Managers?
Everyone disagrees with Chief Forte', but it doesn't matter. The BOPC rubberstamps commands' bullshit and refuses to deal with his blatant disrespect. He was at EPD last weekend bragging that he and the president of the BOPC don't like each other but they won't do anything. This department doesn't have any direction or leadership at any level. Forte' was supported by everyone and turned his back on the troops. It shouldn't shock anyone that he screwed the DC over. That is exactly what he has been doing for over a year.
He also leaked at EPD that Bob Kuehl is at the top of the list for the next deputy chief. Talk about a brain drain. His claim to fame is that he's gotten away with working part time his whole career while he runs his nursing home business on-duty. He did, however, use his friendship with the superintendent of the Raytown School District to get the Chief's wife and daughter a job this year; so a promotion would be well earned. The Chief is clearly intent on surrounding himself with incompetent yes men who make him look good by comparison. What a team we have on the 5th floor. The cheater, the eater, the black racist, the moron and now the buffoonish, modern day Frankenstein. Please God, help us!!!
So, our department is led by DC's that now are renamed. I like Cheater, Eater, Beater, Foolish and Ghoulish. Does that make the Chief No White? How about Not Bright?
If Kuehl becomes DC KCPD is really doomed. Everybody knows what he never shows up for a full days work and hasn't for YEARS.
That's awesome. I forgot about Hundley being a beater. That makes even more sense. I'm leaving it all to you guys. I'm out the door soon. Good luck. I'll be sitting in my glass house laughing my ass off!!!
You guys aren't being fair. Kuehl has put in several full days since he found out Gallagher was leaving. Don't be a hater because he's played the game better than anyone else. He got promoted quickly to Major because he was buds with Ritter, but switched teams without a hitch when Forte became Chief. If you other commanders don't like it, get in the game!!!
You people crack me up. Please don't throw Kuehl and Hopkins into the same category as the 3 worthless deputy chiefs that nobody has any respect for. We should all pray its either Kuehl or Pruetting the chief picks, they are both bright and would treat people right (so does Hopkins) Kuehl does have a part time job but so does Pruetting and most of the command staff. If you recall it was Kuehl who found the boy in the ditch on his day off who had been missing for 24 hours and would have died if not for his help.
I vote for the boy in the ditch over anyone in our command staff. Are you sure he didn't find Kuehl in the ditch?
I don't think Pruetting is in the running for anything. You don't go from the Chief's executive officer and an acting bureau commander to the Traffic Division unless you fucked something up. That's a long fall from grace.
I heard the other deputy chiefs accused him of fucking up the FOP contract.
I don't think the other deputy chiefs could come up with a coherent thought on their own if they tried. But you might be right.
Kuehl will kiss any ass any where.
Got an ass to kiss call Kuehl.
As I understand it the board had an attorney handling negotiations and he reported to them. The command staff has no say in what the contact looks like so how could they be upset with a commander, should be pissed at the board.
If that's true, the command is really going to fuck whoever handles the civilian contract and the local control shit.
Funny but true.
It was because the other commanders blamed him for allowing the fop the upper hand in contract negotiations and to get a better deal than the dept got. I heard that from the 5th floor.
Nope, the depts negotiating team was made up of several commanders with preutting running point. He blew it. The fop negotiated a better deal and he paid for it.
Fire hundley. Thatd go a LONG way in improving morale. That guy is a black eye on the kcpd.
Forte has done more damage to the department than half of the criminals in the last 10 years. He is totally incompetent and in over his head. He has absolutely no idea how to run a large city urban Police Department and he has without a doubt set the KCPD back 10 years already.
How about a vote of no confidence in the chief and all deputy chiefs? That is something we could get a huge turnout for. Start spreading the word! And throw the mayor in there for good measure!
The only person in the department who knew anything about negotiations did not participate and it shows. Gallagher and Pruetting were novices and the FOP agreement proves how ineffective they were. Another brilliant move by our great leader.
The only person who knew anything about labor negotiations was Brisbin. For the last year of his time on the department, Forte stripped him of all his job duties and shut him out of everything. Forte wouldn't answer his emails or phone calls and refused to talk to him.
Sweet gig if you can get it. Draw Deputy Chief's pay with a take home car, nice office at the Academy, full access to the gym and no responsibilities whatsoever. Brisbin worked his ass off until Forte took over. Brisbin left only because he couldn't stand not having anything to do anymore.
Forte will pick a white guy. He has to have a token.
Given his previous selections, competence doesn't matter.
I knew KCPD was going down hill a long time ago.
Their website is hardly ever updated.
Just like a business going out of business the don't bother to change the light bulbs.
KCPD website is outdated.
