KANSAS CITY CLEAVER II BLVD GETTING SAFER, BRIGHTER AND CREATING JOBS CLAIMS CONGRESSMAN

In the latest EC from D.C. newsletter, Congressman Cleaver hits on a great many topics related to organic farming, disaster prep and urban renewal. Here's what I think it the most important segment of the e-mail blast:

EC2 BOULEVARD GETTING SAFER, BRIGHTER, AND KEEPING CREWS WORKING

The snow on the ground earlier this week didn’t deter from digging into the dirt to get this improvements project underway. The scheduled changes to Emanuel Cleaver, II, Boulevard are needed, and will help to make the area more accessible, safer, and efficient for transportation.

Improvements that will soon be underway include:

- Bike lanes
- New curbs and sidewalks
- New street and pedestrian lights
- Improved crosswalks
- Trees
- And new bus shelters

The bus shelters will have solar powered LED lighting. The bike lanes will allow families to exercise together – burning calories instead of burning fossil fuel to get from one place to another. Trees and landscaping will help beautiful, while better curbs, sidewalks, and lighting will allow neighbors, the disabled, and children get safely from one place to another. The entire project will also help to keep and create jobs.

As I have often said, I do not believe the federal government should be involved in everything. But there is a role for the government to play. The $2 M project was funded in part with federal dollars I was pleased to work for, on behalf of Missouri’s Fifth District.

There is good economic news throughout our area, and this is a perfect example of that.

  4. Wait, so it's possible to do that without investing $100M in a rail route?

    Tell that to Streetcar Neighbors.

  5. Would be nice if that jerk could come up with some money to remove the stoplights from felony freeway that he insisted on.

  9. That's right, 5:02. It would be interesting to correlate the progress and completion of BWD with the crime rate in the surrounding area.

  10. This is a bad joke if I've ever heard one. A congressman can't even be straight about keeping his own street clean. Kc has come to some pretty dire circumstances I see.

  13. Cleaver you pissed off millions of dollars in the dead Green Impact Zone. The federal dollars could have created plenty of jobs in the 5th District. New Candidate please file!

  14. I guess Turk is just going to make things harder for a decent candidate once again. At the end of the day I almost think that he's working with Cleaver. He's the best thing that ever happened to the guy.

  16. Let's call it the $142M toy trail and wonder where they'll get the other $42M.

In the meantime, "like" #kcstreetcarfail on facebook to hear why the downtown streetcar rapes Kansas City taxpayers of money they weren't even allowed to vote on.

  18. Cleaver won't walk through the green zone without a dozen cops escorting him. What does that tell you.

  19. Just so white people know how full of shit he is and how little he cares about you: That UMKC home invasion murder was so close to the Right Reverend Cleave BLVD that your girlfriend could have hit Brush Creek with a pee-wee football from their driveway.

  20. Let's Review This "EC from DC":

    1) Green Attracts Green
The EC is under the impression that the BrightFarms greenhouse project will somehow lower produce prices for local residents and supply inner-city "food desert" areas with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Please don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen!

    2) Ready For Disaster
Ho-hum, yet another expansion of the federal government in conjunction with a power-hungry Jackson County Executive to create the Independence/Eastern Jackson County Emergency Operations Center!
Mike Sanders going all out to hog more infrastructure and politically dependent job holders for dying Independence.

    3) EC2 Boulevard
Isn't there something preposterous about a 5th District Congressman taking 2 million dollars from taxpayers (that's you) to beautify a stretch of road named for himself?

    4) Affordable Care Act
The EC states that "71 million Americans in private plans are now getting free preventive services, 34 million seniors in Medicare are now getting free preventive services, and more than 6 million seniors have saved almost 6 billion dollars on their prescription drugs."
Please note the liberal and ridiculous use of the word "free" in his statement.

To summarize: BS FROM EC in DC
