Journalist DeAnn Smith Doesn't Care For TKC Blog Community Reporting Goodness!!!
A note at the end of a long work day from KCTV5 Webbie . . .
"What a crazy day when news organizations get ripped for having journalistic standards and doing due diligence before naming someone who has not been charged with committing a crime. Asinine. Again, I am so glad that this ended well and no one was hurt. Kansas City was very fortunate today."
First . . .
News is competitive . . . Newsies also love talking about the news.
Moreover, DeAnn noted that she appreciated this blog in another tweet . . . She has such nice tweets. DeAnn Smith is a regular among the Kansas City Newsie Power Rankings and will probably continue to win the high honor because she's one of Kansas City's best.
Now to the points in this argument that are easily countered . . .
Why assume that the TKC BLOG Community didn't perform due diligence . . . What more proof do we need then the fact that we were RIGHT???
Also, it's not a crime knock over the Kansas City flag and interrupt a speech . . . I don't think this blog has mentioned any charges because that's not the interesting part of the story.
And I probably shouldn't have even blogged this journalistic consideration that's really tantamount to a debate about sausage-making but it was noticed by an AWESOME TIPSTER . . . A write-up from Bottom Line Communications was much more favorable and we are very GRATEFUL for it. Still, most people concerned with the news are also people who dwell on the negative.

When you say "we", who are you referring to?
Tony did not mention any charges, he just called the guy crazy (accurate) before he reversed course and he gave the guy blogger head for being a Founding Father the rest of the afternoon and evening.
DeAnn spends most of the time at work reading pseudo-history blogs about the Middle Ages and lamenting that she does not get to drink as much as her husband who works for the county does. At what point does "journalistic standards" come into play? She is the joke of the newsroom. You should have seen her when it snowed. She was a pathetic mess.
I hear the D-girl liked it when comments speculated on her boobs on here a few weeks ago.
She got beat to the story and is all pissy.....gee lady grow up.
I think the dude really wanted his name out there anyway. Fuck mainstream media. People know they can get more truth and facts here and most people on here know to take things with a grain of salt.
I posted this on Bottom Line and it would not post (Irony, that.), so, here on TKC it is.
"TKC is ugly, unfettered, unrestricted, unabashed and the exact egalitarian intent that we would like to believe that the Founding Fathers had in mind.
I doubt it.
The aquired irony (As I mentioned, I don;t believe the Founding Fathers really wanted it this free.) of restrictions in 4th Estate Main Stream Media vehicles, especially Major newspapers, restricting the comment sections for political correctness should not be lost on we plebes.
On Tony’s site, every time the “N” word guy spews his vitriol, Tony is reaffirmed as THE local bastion of an idea we all hold near and dear to our hearts, public dialogue on myriad sensative subjects without fear of reprisal, social or legal.
The metphysically free discourse offered on that same site, in my opinion, no matter how diverse and acrimonious, serves a valuable and irreplacable service, dialogue with one’s enemies. Or, are they enemies?
Conversation and opinion amongst any and all citizens with any and all opinions, not only brings clarification, it forces, in many cases, those who dissagree to walk in anothers shoes for that proverbial mile.
Tony’s efforts in this city, providing that format, that catharsis, are far more important than the services of the City’s paper of record, which still trys to channel thought and influence culture and politics by way of bending the populace to their will with slanted and oblique reports and worse, reprts with omissions.
Just my opinion, which can be read only in one place in this city. TKC"

She generally does, which is one of the reasons she is no longer around another station. There are other reasons.
DeAnn focuses on "tweets" and Facebook and the like because she really is not that bright. Real journalism is beyond her limited capability. She over compensates. Just like the over-done make-up on her face. She has issues, and tries to hide them. She could never work herself up to being an on-air reporter with that 1950s caked-on make-up.
She reminds me of a former Council Woman.
At least she took a break from tweeting about those bears at the zoo.

Tony, having a "kickass tipster" tell you this guy's name, then running with it before anyone else can confirm it hardly ranks as a journalistic scoop on the lines of sitting alone in a courtroom after the break-in of Democratic Party headquarters and hearing one of those charged say he works for the CIA.
Now as far as the value of this particular blog, I come here to get "one-stop shopping" links to stories that real journalists have done.
Very occasionally will Tony "break" something on his own, but it is usually of no more consequence of this particular "scoop," and quite often it is horribly wrong in his zeal to prove that city government can't do anything right by holding it to a standard of perfection that isn't humanly possible.
For instance, on the Sunday after the first snow storm, Tony ran with the "scoop" that the city was suspending all trash service city wide "indefinitely." I was reading this as the truck came to pick up my trash one day later than usual, as promised.
I had already learned to take Tony's "scoops" with a large dose of salt, but that one certainly didn't increase my confidence in his credibility.
Then, of course, we got the subsequent scoop about "crumbling streets." Whatever happened to that one?

She was told to pack up her Susan Dickmybottom "history" books and leave The Star for the same behavior. If she loses the gig at Channel 5 that will be strike three. The last time she was out of work she made teary phone calls to old, confused Dutch Newman asking for a hack job somewhere. Because Dutch started losing touch with reality during the Clinton Admininistration, the old lady called The Star to try to get DeAnn a job. Of course, The Star had already fired DeAnn so that call did not do much other than give us a reason to chuckle.
True, true...the make-up is on a bit THICK less would be better. But, how many of us would like to see DeAnns' creamy white titties???? I know I would! Dreaming of your tasty nipples lady!!!
