Waldo Stays Winning Against Wal-mart!!!

A quick note about the ongoing fight against Wal-mart in Kansas City's last enclave . . .

From The "Waldonians Against Wallmart" FB

Walmart is willing to forgo the 24 hour operation with hours from 6am to midnight instead.

Access from Wornall would be off of 77th St. (not across the existing trail). They are looking at alternatives/options to reduce traffic on Wyandotte, i.e. easement through the shopping center.

And they will participate in the CID.

This movement needs to decide whether we want any kind of commercial operation to go in there or if we want a more community-centered, public use for it. The bottom line is that if you are for a commercial use of any kind, then Wal-mart remains the most viable option to KCPS.

But if the community were to come together and suggest that no commercial use would be welcomed there because the same issues would exist regardless what kind of company went in, then this would be an entirely different issue for the board to consider.

We need to know how many of the supporters here are willing to back a new petition asking the school to reconsider this property at all as a commercial property.

Suggestion for the Waldo community(from someone who knows about this stuff):

You should embrace this new position as a clear WIN ... PROVIDED:
* the operating hours are codified permanently, so as to be unchangeable without City approval with community endorsement.
* Walmart's CID revenue is reserved SOLELY for housing rehab and neighborhood infrastructure within a quarter-mile radius of the Walmart site (the existing CID will need to be modified ... but so what)

Refreshing to know there is still hope for Kansas City MO. before City Hall turns us into a third world banana republic.

Look I live around the corner from the were the walmart is going to go. I for one am very glad its comming its a fucking improvement over the used car lots, tatoo joints and cash for gold places that none of assholes seemed to mind. Lets be real the only issue that private school suck ups wont be able to use the kcps funded playground anymore. If St. Elizabeth wants the property then ponie up the dough and buy it stop drumming up false outrage! We need the fucking jobs!

Build the Walmart.

This is stupid. Wornall is highly congested with very dense traffic. The roadway is old, businesses are close to the road, and there isn't room to make turn lanes. A Wal-Mart would double the traffic density. Meanwhile, Bannister Mall sets empty. Its a large open area, with multiple traffic lanes controlled by lights, and its very accessible by highways. Why isn't the city trying to sell Wal-Mart on the Mall? A Wal-Mart in Waldo, just up from all the bars, is stupid.

Even being in Waldo is stupid

It ain't a fucking Wal-Mart, it's a grocery store. Jeebus, you anti-Wal-Mart knee-jerkers need to lighten up.

If the name were HyVee, you wouldn't be bitching. Or Price Chopper. You don't want to work for Wal-Mart wages? Don't apply there.

Knock, knock.
Who’s there?
Waldo.
Waldo who? You mean Waldo who gives a fuck?
Bite me you Brookside prick.

And just to refresh short memories. There WAS a Wal-Mart at Bannister Mall. A humongous one. Give you three guesses why it ain't there any more, and you'll probably need all three.

As for "doubling the traffic density," what is the traffic count on Wornall Road today? You really think it's going to double because of a grocery store?

it's a small Walmart grocery store you idiot

9:18 is so right. When the Hen House was (supposedly) going in with all sorts of TIF and other tax breaks, people in the 'hood practically had a collective orgasm. A little honesty, please. What the anti-Walmart folks object to is anything associated with Walmart, and they're not content with not shopping there, they want to keep everyone else away, too.

In other words, they want to make up your mind for you.

It is a Wal-Mart none the less, so that money will go to enrich a family and senior execs who have sucked the life out of American commerce. Fuck'em and their gracious proposals. Filth is Filth and that is exactly what Wal-Mart ownership is!

Here is the only acceptable deal: Wallmart stockholder and former CEO David Glass must sell the Royals to an ownership team led by George Brett who wants to win, then they can open their slime ball purveyor of horse meat under the rules proposed.

Wyandotte and 77th cannot handle that kind of traffic. It appears that the Wall-Mart planners have made the plan worse.

In other words, they have morals and ethics in commerce so they oppose Wal-Mart.

I keep hearing about this horrible East Kansas City 'food desert' but apparently Walmart is interested in competing with those already within a 3? mile radius: Cosentino's (14 West 62 Terrace), Aldi (7511 Wornall Rd), Hyvee (7620 State Line Rd) and Price Chopper (8430 Wornall Rd). Waldo does need another freak’n grocery store! Period.

WaldoNotGoingHungry said...

Let's not forget Trader Joes (8600 Ward Pkwy) and SuperTarget (8509 State Line Rd).

You will be looking at an empty, closed Aldi location as soon as Walmart is official.

It's amazing that when the Hen House was going in no one was complaining about traffic. Now that it's a Walmart grocery store somehow it's the end of the world as we know it.

A little less hypocrisy would be nice.

Aldi kick walmarts ass in price everyday.

So what's wrong with "faggots who troll the plaza , filthy cocksuckers?

You people who live in Brookside/Waldo and other little white enclaves and talk about your community are living in a bubble that is soon to be popped when Brookside/Waldo become part of the hood. It is not a question when any of you get mugged or car jacked or home invaded but when and this is why white people are fleeing Kansas City south of the river and this is not racism: it is a fact.

I am old enough to remember when Bingham Jr. High School was built. It was a jewel in the KCMOSD crown. Of course, that was back when Southwest High School was also a jewel.
I am weeping because of this outcome. It is kinda like seeing an old friend who had been educated and successful become an broken down alcoholic.
I think that a number of churches have looked at this site, but it is just not financially feasible to continue as a school.
This location has been underutilized or abandoned for years. I wish it weren't so, but we have to face reality here. It is kinda like the old West HS, which has been vacant for 40 years and never sold. Leave it to the KCMOSD. They really know how to screw it up.
