TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! IT'LL COST ABOUT A MILLION BUCKS TO MAKE NINE KANSAS CITY FIRE STATIONS GENDER NEUTRAL!!!
Kansas City is soon to pay the price to fix the legacy of discrimination practiced by the Kansas City Fire Department.
To wit . . .
KCFD HAS LONG FEARED "GENDER NEUTRAL" REQUIREMENTS AND NOW THE BILL HAS COME DUE!!! IT'LL COST MORE THAN $900K TO START MAKING KANSAS CITY FIRE STATIONS SEEM A BIT LESS LIKE FRAT HOUSES!!!
Here's where the bill starts . . .
"Authorizing the Director of Finance to accept the proposal of Banc of America Public Capital Corporation (“BAPCC”) for financing the improvements to nine (9) fire stations to comply with Gender Neutral requirements (“Project”) under a Master Equipment Lease/Purchase Agreement (“Lease”) in an approximate principal amount not to exceed $918,000.00.00; estimating and appropriating $918,000.00 in lease proceeds; authorizing the execution of any and all documents and agreements necessary for the financing; designating requisitioning authorities; authorizing the Director of Finance to close project accounts upon project completion; and declaring the intent of the City to reimburse itself from the lease purchase proceeds for certain expenditures."
KCFD is the last local institution to publicly fight diversity efforts on the flimsy premise that women and minorities can't do a job that's usually secured by political, union and family connections. Now that ambulance service is a part of the KCFD, there seems to be an increased effort to drag this institution into a modern era and enforce federally mandated requirements for diversity and accessibility for an organization that's often viewed as the last bastion of white, male SUPREMACY.
