The story of Kansas City's missing $15k continues to evolve and now a rescheduled event has come under fire.
Background: $15k from Kansas City coffers has basically gone missing. There is a police investigation underway but insiders close to the controversy claim they'll be exonerated by the findings. The City Manager has demanded a return of the funds. 5th District Councilman Michael Brooks has refused to answer questions regarding his admitted involvement in helping to lobby for funding. After two no-shows, there is yet another "Healthy & Drug Free Living" event planned for sometime in April - This time featuring boxing trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr.
However . . .
NOW CRITICS ARE CONCERNED THAT BRASH BOXING TRAINER FLOYD MAYWEATHER SR. MIGHT NOT BE SUITABLE FOR A PUBLIC EVENT AIMED AT LOCAL YOUTH!!!
Certainly, Mr. Mayweather Sr. has a storied boxing career but his credentials as a youth counselor are suspect.

Take a look at a somewhat recent and profanity-laced confrontation between Floyd Mayweather Sr. and his son during a recent documentary.

I didn't see a slap but what I did notice was multiple threats of violence, a slew of cursing and no evidence of credible mediation skill.
A trusted Kansas City Insider offered this analysis.
"The clip is hilarious but this is also serious business. Mayweather Sr. trains boxers not children. What skills does he have mentoring young people and why should we trust him with Kansas City youth who probably aren't going to get in the boxing ring? This isn't just a poor substitute, it's a shame that bringing a troubled former fighter into Kansas City to talk to kids is being proposed with no questions asked."
Additionally, it's doubtful that young people would remember the glory days of former fighter Floyd Mayweather Sr. and he really is more famous now for his fighting with his son.
And so, critics wonder if organizers of this controversial proposed event are simply following one mistake with the next.

The "leaders" of this city should be ashamed of themselves, but they are not - a sure sign that they consider themselves above the law and exhibit their criminal nature with impunity.

ReplyDeleteThis video, sad as it may be, confirms all of the stereotypes of the Black experience and interactions of the same. Neither of these two, in my opinion, is appropriate or qualified to mentor youth; bull dogs perhaps but not children. Here we go with the violent, angry, black male for no other reason but self-importance. It was a very entertaining video; I laughed uncontrollably. On a more positive note, it may have proven more effective that he was never invited to Kansas City.

He is the one who demanded the $15,000 to supposedly give to Ossco Bolton, although it was mailed to Ron Hunt, to bring Mayweather Jr. to town. But the money is long gone, Ossco developed lock-jaw, Ron Hunt got cranky and Michael Brooks ran scared.
