"I was at the Westport Roanoke Community Center Tuesday night, at pottery class. At 8:00 we heard 10-12 gunshots right outside the front windows of the buildings. Everyone moved away from the windows, into the hallways. Some people who were in the gym saw the gunfire and saw people running away. Apparently there were some thugs playing basketball in the gym, they got into an argument, and left. They were shooting at each other outside in the driveway/parking lot. One guy might have been shot but won't identify the shooter. A friend's car was hit with stray gunfire. The police eventually came, did an investigation, wouldn't let anyone leave until 9:30. You won't hear about this on TV or read it in the Star. I'm assuming they'll try to keep it quiet.
Now it's not safe to go to the community centers. Many of the people who were there said they'll never come back. I plan to write an email tomorrow asking that they spend some of the sales tax money we are now paying on security for their customers."

And so the increasing quotient of violence continues in Kansas City and thankfully Citizen Media and some very talented TV people are doing their best to keep Kansas City viable despite the best efforts of thugs and mostly clueless members of the local political class.

ReplyDeleteThis is not the first time this center has had a shooting. Years ago, an young 15-16 year old was shot and killed by a stray bullet while playing basketball. Security is not what the center needs. Society needs to do something about this.
