CRAIG GLAZER ENDURES SNOW AND PROMOS WEEKEND GIG
TKC NOTES: A quick story from Craig Glazer about his weekend plans and an act coming to to his place despite crappy weather.
Snowbound TV Star at Stanford & Sons
Josh Wolf will be at Stanford & Sons at the Legends Shopping Center Saturday the 23rd at 7:45pm and 9:45pm. He was scheduled to work both tonight and Saturday, but due to the inclement weather, his flight will not get him here until Saturday.
Like thousands of other Kansas City businesses, Stanford & Sons took a major financial punch in the stomach with the blizzard Thursday. As you know, in our city, just say the word ‘snow’ and everyone pretty much stays indoors.
For those of you who want to get out and see one of TV’s newest and brightest stars, Josh Wolf would be that guy. Josh is one of the new breed celebrities that Stanford has helped launch. In just less than six years at Legends, Stanford’s has continued to demonstrate an uncanny knack of finding and launching new comedy stars. Other examples would be Rob Riggle; who did one of his first weekend headlining gigs here and started as a doorman at Stanford’s in Westport; TJ Miller was given his first headline week at an ‘A’ club here; and can now be seen in two TV series and tons of movies; and of course the explosive Jim Jeffries who got his first American headlining weeks here at Stanford’s and now has his own series; ‘Legit’ on FX. Maybe most unexpected was our own Nikki Glaser who started at Stanford’s in Overland Park as an open mike comic and developed into an emcee and who has since blossomed into a major headliner with her own new television series.
We first met Josh in 2007 when he was a feature act for the beautiful April Macie. He then went on to tour the country with Larry the Cable Guy and was given a huge role on season 4 of ‘My Name is Earl’ and became a regular performer, as well as writer, on ‘Chelsea Lately’. Since then he has written for and appeared on ‘Raising Hope’ and become a major player on the hit series ‘After Lately’. Though Chelsea has many comedy celebrities on both shows, Josh is considered her ‘main guy’. Somewhere in there, he found time to do one of his earliest weeks as a headliner here at Stanford & Sons to huge response.
What makes Josh stand out are his boyish good looks, his trademark ball cap on backwards and his often lightly naughty sense of humor regarding his own teenage son and where life has taken Josh over the years. Simply put, Josh Wolf exudes charisma. Clearly, Chelsea Handler agrees.
They’ve done a great job of cleaning up the streets. If you are tired of sitting at home and watching television, maybe it’s time to get out this Saturday and see a great show with Josh Wolf and co-star Roy Anthony. Hopefully, for all of us in Kansas City, the winter weather is behind us. Bring on the heat. See you at Stanford’s.

What do tix usually cost?
Saw Josh two years ago at the club. Fun show. I am a Chelsea fan, did they date?
Jim Jeffereis was way too funny. Caught him at the club in like 2010. Wild.
Glazer discovered everyone. Ask him.
I've never heard of any of these people. When is Bob Newhart coming back? I love that bit he does where he pretends to be talking to someone on the telephone.
He's pretty funny. Show should be good. Snow shows at Stanford's are always pretty hilarious.
Who are these guys, you must be an oldster!
Glazerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr discovered wanker shit. Stanford's gets what the agents got. Craig ain't no Rick Newman or Mitzi Shore. Comedians make their bones in NY, LA or Chicago at Second City. The only thing Stanford's breaks is the law by serving under age minors and watering down premium liquor.
Can't wait until Glazer brings back the hottest guy in all of comedy: Jimmy JJ Walker!!! Said 1986.
Holy crap, Tony. Why do you let Glazer just use your site for his self-promotion?
Is Glazer fucking your mouth now Tony?
Bend over and drive the pulsating 2" glazer into the cavernous yawning botello.
Can we all start promoting our businesses here on your blog Tony?
Tony, could you at least flag ads as what they are, ads, up front so we can immediately skip them?
It's obnoxious for you to post ads under the guise of opinions or NEWS. Unwritten but generally-accepted accepted journalistic standards usually result in self-policing, as a courtesy to readers.....
"Like thousands of other Kansas City businesses, Stanford & Sons took a major financial punch in the stomach with the blizzard Thursday."
Must be a great business you have there. One night is a major financial punch. Your headliner can't get in until Saturday. KCI was running at 7 am this morning. Couldn't pony up full airfare to get him here? As the savvy business man you are, one would think you would budget in a several days a year when mother nature could rain, sleet, snow, tornado, etc... on your parade. I mean it is Kansas after all. You could always move back LA where you don't have these worries. According to you, you have them eating out of your hand out there.

Funny a rather long piece about Rob Riggle in the Star. Maybe I missed it, but he doesn't give a shout out to Standford's or anything. Guess he doesn't give much credit for his success to you.
+100 7:28 PM!
Man the jealous hate. Stanfords is likely our cities only real entertainment establishment that has launched much of anyone these past years. You know it, I know it, we know it. Thank the Glazers for bringing our city top talent for decades. Thank you guys.
Its in kck. Who the fuck goes to kck? Put it downtown or in joco and people will go.
It was in both a few years ago. I been to all of them. The new one is the nicest.
Ever notice how everyone who Glazer claims to have launched the career of do you see in print it written how they have given thanks to Glazer or Stanford’s for doing so?
So do all these comedians act alike and blow off those who helped them get where they are or is this more hot air from the celebrity con-man?
I mean let's give credit where credit is due, but it appears here that credit is due to Stanford’s and Glazer, only by Glazer himself, who thinks these so called careers they have launched are never admitted by those with the careers as being launched by any activity related to anything Glazer or Stanford’s has done for them.
When top talent comes to Kansas City, Stanford’s isn’t the place they go. Midland, Sprint Center, and Kauffman Center for Performing Arts are where they go, not a strip mall comedy club. Comparing Stanford’s as a place for top talent is like comparing places to eat out at. When you want a nice well prepared meal with style and a touch of class you go to Capitol Grill or Pierponts, If you just want to eat and are not picky, then Denny’s, IHOP or QuikTrip will do the trick. But don’t expect top headlining eats at those places either.
Again you are not anything more than a Glazer hater my good chum. Stanfords is too often given credit. I saw Louie CK do it twice, once on his own tv show where he featured Stanford and Sons. David Letterman has talked about them with comics on his show often. I don't see everything out there, but have read many stories in our own paper where big stars say they started there or it helped them get started. A guy named Bill Hicks was a big star and he wrote about them in his book. I am much older than many of you, but I remember a comic named Sinbad who always talked about starting at Stanford and Sons on his TV show. So your seemingly endless hateful lies are just that. Kansas City is proud of Stanford and Sons, its about the only entertainment venue here that has ever launched anyone that matters.
Dude is right. Stanfords is given credit here and all over for making it possible for a comic to make it big. I saw Larry the Cable Guy at Kemper. HE THANKED STANFORD AND SONS ON STAGE AND CRAIG GLAZER in front of maybe 10,000 for starting him. So yeah they are a big thing in the comedy world.
You can attack the Glazer on some other fronts maybe, not this one. Stanford and Sons is an institution here and around the country. Hell they know about the place in Dallas even. I was at a comedy show there and the girl I met asked me about Stanford and Sons. She lived there. Its a kinda big deal.
All talk host shows mention where a comic is going to appear next so what just a nice jester on the shows part to let folks know where that person is headed in the next couple of weeks.
Plus as a rule a lot of times a comic will make mention of being in town before and where they have played as well and is common part of the act.
Glazer jacked your ass boy. Nobodies heard of the Midland or even Sprint outside of KC. Stanfords Comedy is well known as a major long running establishment that put the big names out there. Glazer got you on that one boy. You lose.
Craig's club is the only joint in this city that has allowed nearly anyone to be discovered nationally. The Midland or Sprint are for after you are a star, like Larry The Cable Guy or Jeff Dunham, both made many early stops at Stanfords when they were nobodies. I think the Glazer's have given the national audiences many big stars. Nobody else here has in years, if at all. Oh forgot 18th and Vine back in the 30's, yep they had a couple.
True that.
Hate to break the news to all you toadies, but "Stanford & Sons" is hardly unique. Every city of any size has a comedy club, and have had one for as long or longer than S&S, and they all book the same kinds of act:
1. Has-beens who had a sit-com 30 or 40 years ago, with material just as old.
2. Newcomers who are still cheap.
They ride a circuit much like the old Borsch Belt and Chitlin' Circuit once did. To say that any one of the many clubs they worked while climbing the ladder "discovered" them, well, that's just idiotic.
Hateful asshole, Stanfords is one of the oldest two or three in the nation. Gee is TJ Miller, Jim Jefferies, Nikki Glaser, Dov Davidoff, Josh Wolf, Bryan Callen, Eliza Schlizinger, Mo Mandel, Lewis Black, Carlos Mencia, Rob Schnieder, Rob Riggle, and about 100 more big stars all old time tv stars? Why don't you give it up old hateful guy. Glazer slammed your dumb ass. Glazer is a major someone, you are an old hater and in your mommy's house. Get a life for yourself. You look like a fool attacking this institution. No every city does not have a comedy attraction like this one, this is a national treasure you are a fat joke. Eat some pasta now.
Hater dude Kramer is right, all those people played the club at Legends. I have seen some of them there. You do look stupid going after Craig this way. He's got you nine ways to Sunday here. Pick another battle. Hey is this Smart Coward? Funny you got him out to fight you, but you noshowed so you look like a coward, sorry. Funny though. Glazer would beat your ass man. Sorry just a fact. Krammer what up bro?
Finally some serious comments about
glazer. No he didn't launch the
stars but many may not have eaten
had it not been for glazer.
Give credit to his dad who started
it all.
But the idiots like chuck and
smartman and others who constantly
attack everyone here need to go
back to their kennels.
chuck and smartman are the scurge
of this site.
Glazer has done some wrong things..but give me credit for
the good stuff he does.
I love it when snitchy slips and refers to himself as me like above. Btw the comedians have love for the comedy store in los angeles and they joke about how Stanfords would rip them off lying about paid door receipts.
Nobody jokes about that club, it rocks always has, Craig and Jeff started comedy not Stan, he came in latter. Like it or not Glazer is kinda the Johnny Carson of comedy in the mid west, he really has discovered many stars, nobody else around here is even close. Yes he deserves and does get national credit for that. You who hate have done nothing, nobody has ever heard of you or cares about you. Glazer wins.
Again, I hate to break the news to you toadies, but Glazer didn't invent the comedy club concept.
Now did a lot of young comics appreciate the gig? Sure they did. On their way to comedy clubs in Wichita, Omaha, Des Moines and St. Louis.
The gig was nice, but if they depended on Glazer to eat, then they starved to death.
Fuck you. You're about to take a public whitewashing!
What is your point? Stanfords is a top club, one of the two or three oldest owned by the same people in America. Simple. Yes they are a big deal. End of the story guys.
I hope this whole thread (and all of the other ones dealing with glazer and family) is a put-on, and y'all writing in with accolades for S&S realize how insignificant the mid-sized-city comedy club circuit is, and y'all are just shooting for some advertising for S&S free or on the cheap.
I mean, don't try to convince me there is actually a homo-sapien named glazer who actually writes this crap and believes in his own mind that its the gospel truth. If so, I think his snail-mail address must be near Larned or Osowattome, if you know what I mean.
Did I read that this "glazer" and his brother, both in their late fifties, were hoping to track down a person with aka "Smartman" so they could batter him last week? And this started out with blog flaming? Can't be true, sounds too kookie! If it was true, I think I'd be safer with my white ass at 31st and Linwood screaming the N-word at 3:am on Saturday night than in this nut's company.
I wish this was glazer's noble, but feeble, attempt to resurrect Andy Kauffman, and revive non-fiction comedy, but that would require an intellect for comedy on a magnitude at least one order more than he possesses, even having run a standard, nothing-special, modest comedy club for years....
Glazer made hearne's blog.
Now the only thing left on
hearne's blog are the remaining
5 commentators and the 2 or 3
writers besides hearne.
When it came to a huge story
like jj's hearne turned to
a non issue about a nearby owner
who was not in the building
when it exploded.
Thank god that individual was not
in the building.
Now hearne go away and take your
cheap a$$ trolls with you.
The site is a mess. You are a
mess and you are a disgrace to
every one who was proud to work
at the kc star.
