Subject: KC Streetcar Update

As you’ve no doubt heard, the Kansas City Downtown Streetcar project is a go!

Today we’re launching the first edition of the website and want to let you know what to expect in the coming days and months. From now until the summer of 2015 when the KC Streetcar opens, we’ll be working to bring a modern and exciting world-class transit solution to downtown Kansas City. Hitting opening day in 2015 requires a tremendous amount of work and we want to make sure you’re kept up-to-date on project developments.

Our website, www.kcstreetcar.org, will serve as the main hub for project updates. Through this site, you’ll be able to get the latest detour information, full maps of the route, access to project and construction updates and much more. We also hope that you’ll connect with us through social media as well. You can follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/KCStreetcar and on Twitter at https://twitter.com/kcstreetcar. We also have a YouTube and Nixle page that you can access through our website.

Starting in early February, our project team will be walking the route and knocking on doors to meet residents, business owners and workers in the area. At the same time, TREKK Design Group will begin their work to locate underground vaults and storage areas that could impact construction. Drilling will begin along the route to explore underground conditions related to electric poles that will ultimately need to be installed to provide power to the streetcars during the week of February 11.

Once these steps have been completed, it’s expected that construction will begin in mid-2013. Building a streetcar line is different from building a road or even light-rail transit. There will be at least two rounds of construction – the first round of construction will move utilities while the second round will put the streetcar tracks in place. Construction will be completed in two or three block segments, and we’ll work with business owners and residents along the route to minimize disruptions. As we move forward, we’ll continue to keep you apprised of our progress through frequent email updates. If you know of someone who would be interested in this information, forward this email and encourage them to visit our website to join the KC Downtown Streetcar mailing list. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at info@kcstreetcar.org

We’re very excited to bring this fantastic amenity to Kansas City and we look forward to seeing you on opening day!

Sincerely,

Nora Lockton

From reading this thing it's clear that the fix was in since they started.

Even worse . . .

COST OVERRUNS ARE INEVITABLE AS KANSAS CITY IS SOON TO GET STUCK WITH A HUGE BILL FOR A TOY TRAIN LINE THAT FAILS TO LIVE UP TO PROMISES!!!

More than ever it's clear to see that Kansas City is on the wrong track that started with voter suppression and now counts on eco-devo pipe dreams.

DEVELOPING . . .

  16. The only way to defeat this is to create cheaper, more comprehensive solutions for the ATA through technology and versatility.

Until we come up with a way to convince people who don't need to ride the bus that it's safe, easy, and maybe even more convenient than driving, our leaders are going to look for gimmicks and expensive, alternative forms of inferior transportation.

We can't just say "NO" to the train, we have to say "Here's a better idea,"

    1. People who cannot afford cars r going to use public transportation; people who own cars r going to use them. Its THAT SIMPLE. and the people who HAVE to use public Trans really dont care if its a bus or a subway or a RICKSHAW. I know because I WALK & ride the bus. Give up this pipe dream that people who own cars r going to use pub Trans because its convenient or because of the environment or worse- because its COOL. CARS RULE! And when u see those blank faces staring out from that bus, guess what? Theyre all dreaming of owning a CAR!

  17. A really crappy idea, this streetcar. It's NOT public transportation which we really need. It's just crap to do a poor attempt to increase the value of downtown land.

City officials need to get their head out of their a$$es! Quit screwing the poor to help the rich! Don't we have enough of that on the national level?
