TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS REVEAL MISSOURI PLAN TO FIGHT ECONOMIC "BORDER WAR" THAT'S POACHING KANSAS CITY JOBS!!!

Missouri's greatest minds are hard at work looking for a way to stop the so-called "Border War" that's helping to destroy Kansas City's economy and stealing jobs from this town almost every week.

Real talk . . . The smartest guy I know was working on this one with a bunch of other Missouri politicos and you know what he's doing now? Looking for a house in a posh Kansas suburb. It would be sad if it wasn't so hilarious.

Anyhoo . . .

THANKS TO A RATHER KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS WE OBTAINED SECRET DOCUMENTS WHICH OUTLINE MISSOURI'S PLAN TO WIN THE ECONOMIC BORDER WAR WITH KANSAS!!!

However . . . Before we start celebrating there's a lot of things to consider about this plan.

IT'S A TRAP!!! TOP MISSOURI OFFICIALS AND THEIR ESTIMATION OF TAXES AND LOCAL LIFE REQUIRES FAR TOO MUCH SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF AND DOESN'T MATCH REALITY!!!

And so . . .

CHECK THE HIGHLIGHTS FROM THIS KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTER REGARDING A PLAN TO WIN THE BORDER WAR THAT DOESN'T PASS THE SMELL TEST!!!

Check it:

"As you know, If you look at "Properties" you can see who wrote it. And this was apparently written on DED director Chris Pieper’s computer. This suggests the DED’s leadership is very worried about Kansas' new tax laws and that Missouri's highest ranking development official apparently has enough time on his hands to write extended Power Point presentations."

"I think your readers would be interested in a few items."

"First of all, the document uses uses credit rating as a scare tactic on pages 18-19."

----------

"It's especially amusing that a Kansas City organization is critical of Kansas' education funding. Are they completely unaware of the state of KC schools?"

To be fair, maybe they're counting on that impending takeover or breaking up the district . . . Or like so many KC Students. Maybe they're just skipping in spite of Council Dude Scott Wagner's best efforts . . .

"It also asserts that that businesses are unlikely to move from MO to KS because they don't qualify for the tax cuts are on pp. 52-53."

-------

"Favorite is they say that “Start-up or High Growth” companies won’t move to KS because the have ”little income for several years.” Which begs the questions -- what about those businesses that do have a lot of income? And when startups do have money, where will they go?"

I thought the whole point of Google Fiber was that we could telecommute from Silicon Valley to Kansas City.

"Funniest, perhaps is that on page 11 the DED touts its 61 tax credit programs."

"Then, incredibly, on page 34 they attack the notion that tax rates play in growth and development."

"So to sum up, first they tout their tax credits as making MO more competitive, then poo poo the idea that rates matter. Tax rates do matter, obviously. If they didn’t, there wouldn’t be the tax credits."

Show-Me Double Talk On Taxes . . . It's a longstanding Missouri tradition.

"My opinion: A much simpler position would be to just ditch the credits program and cut the taxes on all MO businesses. But then, what would the DED do with all its time? Probably make PowerPoint presentations like this. Again, its worth noting that this presentation was made by the top guy."

Agreed.

Now here's the embed version of the doc via Google slides . . .

  2. I don't know why anyone would bother to live in Kansas. With the tax base disappearing that supports basic services, police, fire, etc., and the fact that property taxes will skyrocket to make up for the loss of state income tax, and roads and highways will be one big pothole from now on and they will tack on another 10 cents per gallon on the gasoline tax and I could go on.....Sounds like paradise doesn't it.
    Live in Missouri.

  3. Okay... "live in missouri." just don't make it in kansas city.

  4. It's all flyover country.

    But nice report TKC.

I thought Sly was supposed to work toward regional economic cooperation like he promised?

Those Google Fiber press conferences didn't help solve all this?

  5. Quoting Republicans about fiscal policy is pretty hilarious. It's their boneheaded "feed the rich" philosophy that got us into this economic mess.

  6. More welfare and mooching from corporations will stop the bleeding?

    Don't think so.

KC is experiencing the Liberal death that killed Detroit.

KC will be in near total ruins in a few decades.

    Mr. Tony,
Some of those slides are now dated. Talking about capital gains v income tax leaves out the Fiscal Cliff vote. We did make the Bush tax cuts permanent for those of us scraping by under $400K a year.

See this link and then we can further talk:

  10. The right wing ultrawealthy that are calling the shots in Kansas have a lot of balls to bitch about medicaid, medicare, social security on one hand, then walk to the Kansas legislature and ask for a corporate handout with the other.

  13. Kansas isn't poaching jobs! Mayor Sly is killing them with his dictatorship. This town is worse off since he's ascended into power. There's no doubt about that! The laws of the land must change in a comprehensive way, not just tax incentives.

Legislatively, Missouri will never be able to fix this because of the political corruption that exists which keeps rich people rich and poor people poor. In Kansas, you make the best of what you have and you will have access to dream America. Until that changes, nothing Missouri or Kansas City does will stop the bleeding.

    Cue the O'Jays music...

  16. If the contest is for the most backwards ass, ignorant, boring, flat state in the country, then Kansas wins hands down. No doubt.

  17. You're confused. We're talking Kansas City, Missouri, not Kansas. Everything is better in Kansas.

    ReplyDelete
  18. You believe the earth is less than 10,000 years old, and I'm the one confused? Remember, when leaving Kansas, don't go too far in any direction, or you may fall off the edge of the earth. In fact, for all of our sakes, just stay in Kansas.

  19. Kansans may believe in 15th century science but Missouri's economic devolpment people believe in economic theory disproved in the 17th century.

    ReplyDelete
  20. So you're saying we are two centuries ahead of you. Got it.

  21. The doctor asked me the other days if I had any birth defects. I said yeah, I was born in Kansas.

  22. Yeah those Missouri roads are just oh so great and lets not forget all those failed malls and massive amounts of crackheads, dealers, and prostitution. Atleast in Kansas we hide our shame alot of Missourians are just damn shameless kinda like the show :-) lol
