TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! JACKSON COUNTY EXECUTIVE MIKE SANDERS STAYS WINNING FOR THIRD TERM NOW THAT VICTOR CALLAHAN TAKES "COMMISSION NERD" GIG!!!

In Kansas City, and ESPECIALLY IN JACKSON COUNTY, elections are decided long before voters make their way to the polls.

To wit . . .

JACKSON COUNTY INSIDERS OFFER AN IMPORTANT PERSPECTIVE ON THE RECENT VICTOR CALLAHAN APPOINTMENT TO THE STATE TAX COMMISSION!!!

Gov. Nixon appoints Victor Callahan to the State Tax Commission

It's a win/win for everybody but not in the way most people think . . .

Announced nearly in secret on New Year's Eve this appointment has one important implication.

WITH VICTOR CALLAHAN OUT OF THE WAY . . . JACKSON COUNTY EXECUTIVE MIKE SANDERS IS WITHOUT A FORMIDABLE OPPONENT FOR A THIRD TERM!!!

Sen. Callahan was sitting on top of a mountain of cash. He is a fearsome campaigner and there are very few people who would opt to tangle with the Eastern Jack Juggernaut.

As Missouri Democratic Party Chair, The County Executive obviously has the ear Gov. Jay.

And so. . .

JACKSON COUNTY INSIDERS COMMEND A MASTERFUL BIT OF BEHIND THE SCENES MANEUVERING IN ORDER TO "ENCOURAGE" THIS PLUSH APPOINTMENT FOR MR. CALLAHAN!!!

On his own, Mr. Callahan is obviously worthy of an appointment that would offer a nice opportunity to secure a state pension.

And . . . It has been suggested by Jackson County Insiders that it's far easier and much more pleasant to defeat potential opponents with acts of kindness and support rather than confrontation.

Accordingly . . .

- Mr. Callahan has a plumb appointment . . . Despite the fact that, Insiders say, "commission nerds" don't get the kind of political action to which the outgoing State Senator is accustomed. Then again, securing a retirement is a lot more important than bickering with other political d-bags.

- Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders no longer faces the prospect of a tough race with a well known mover & shaker.

- Gov. Jay rewards one of his fellow blue dog Democrats and earns yet another powerful ally.

And it's important to know that all of this is behind the scenes but above board, perfectly legal and how DEMOCRACY works despite the "good government" B.S. that is trotted out on cable TV talk shows.

One last thing . . .

LET'S NOT FORGET THAT NOT EVERYBODY LOVES THE COUNTY EXECUTIVE!!!

Hard feelings over layoffs, ongoing rivalries and other ambitious people abound.

Behind the scenes . . . People are "encouraging" Theresa Garza Ruiz to think about a run . . . It would be a long shot but would undoubtedly prove hilarious.

In the final analysis . . . All of this confirms a longstanding suspicion of most Kansas City political watchers who realize that voters are becoming less important in the local Democratic process. Natch.

  1. Nice theory Pancho.

  2. What's stopping Callahan from resigning the appointment in 2014 and running against Sanders? Pretty much nothing.

  7. Whats the point?

  8. Theresa Garza Ruiz is more likely to become a pole dancer than County Executive. Now think about those visuals and try to eat dinner.

  9. You sound like your trying to protect someone from the unpleasant rough edges of life Tony.

  11. 100k+ for what is probably a part time job isn't that bad. Especially for someone with zero value outside of politics.

  13. A "win" only when someone else walks away. I guess we need to take our win where we can get it. Basically, a win by default isn't really a win. It's an indication that people don't give a crap!

  15. I wouldn't underestimate Theresa, Tony.

She could be a strong candidate if her "Sly" friend across the street gave her a bit of help.

  16. Have any of these people ever had a real job?

  17. Mike has a free ride what a shame

  18. Anyone thinking Callahan was ever going to run against Sanders is living in fantasy land. Vic cut a deal to get paid for his years of "loyalty" to Jay where he can pad his retirement for doing very little. Another poli cashes in. end of story.

  19. Victor is a hoot and always fun to watch. With the bump in pay, maybe he can buy some new or gently-used suits that fit.
He's by far more entertaining to watch than Sanders, Ruiz or anyone in JaxCo.

  20. Who is the chick on the sign?

  21. Good one, Tony! I like the way you give that fucker, Sanders, a nice story. In what world would a Victor Callahan take the easy way OUT? Nope, watch him pulverize any opponent. Mike Sanders doesn't have an "in" with Nixon. He had NOTHING to do with this appointment. His folks are lying to you, my friend. That appointment was just what Callahan wanted. It won't trip him up as he continues on with his political ambitions.
If Sanders' people continue to lie they will ... wait... never mind, truth telling is too foreign for that hodge podge of humanity. No insider trusts them.
