THE TKC SUNDAY SPECIAL!!! TALKING WITH KANSAS CITY'S CENTRAL STANDARD TEAM!!!

Central Standard is Kansas City's most eclectic radio program.

Recently, TKC talked with the host Jabulani Leffall and new producer Matthew Long-Middleton about the program and all things Kansas City.

"There's so much going on in this city, it's a challenge to keep up with everything. Still, I think we do good work providing listeners with the a lot fascinating cultural influences in Kansas City," Mr. Leffall said. "It's not always about a new trend. Instead, it's important to facilitate a discussion that discovers new details about people and influence behind trends in KC."

Accordingly, it was exciting to listen to Mr. Leffall and his new producer discuss their plans for this year and how they hope to expand their coverage.

Look for more live shows from Central Standard along an effort to incorporate Twitter and other social media into the programs.

New producer Matthew Long-Middleton spoke of Kansas City's eagerness to help new arrivals discover the town.

"People in KC are proud of their city and they really encourage media to learn more about the local history. I've met a lot of people who have bee very helpful in discovering Kansas City and what motivates local discussion."

Long-Middleton previously worked for jazz radio in New York and joined Central Standard about a month ago.

As the new Central Standard team reignite their "look at the different worlds within Kansas City" it's clear they have a newfound enthusiasm.

I'd be remiss if I didn't note that the duo revealed that they get angry calls with even the mere mention of TKC . . . And last time I was on the show about a year ago it was kinda funny to watch Star newsie Steve Kraske stalk the radio booth and pout.

Still, while TKC might not be the guest of this new Kansas City radio power duo any time soon . . . I'll still be listening intently to one of the best Kansas City programs currently on air.

  1. The show is pretty good and it's about time you use more than one source for a story.

Why is the Black guy Mr. Laffall but the White guy is Long-Middleton?

  3. Lafall is an Affirmative Action hire.

The show is propaganda and the usual culture of complaint and guilt.

  4. Most boring show ever. KCUR used to be pretty interesting until the "suits" took control.

  5. Middleton's a marketing guy. So now whenever you listen to Central Standard you'll think, what are they trying to sell me, should I buy it, probably not.

  14. They're so inbred they glow in the dark. Therefore, they must be acceptable.

DNA research has proven that the more 'white blood' you have, the more Neandethal genes you have. Africans are the only ones who don't have any Neanderthal genes.

The white man says, Bugga, bugga, where's my guns, bitch. Shut up, faggot.

  21. While Central Standard has potential, it will never be maximized, until Mr. Leffall comes to the realization that the show is NOT primarily about him. Way too often he can be found repeating his own name and using words in an awkward attempt to make himself appear more literate than reality suggests. Drop the pretense, and put your focus solely on your guests and callers.
