KANSAS CITY VACANTS STILL DANGEROUS

So far, neither the so-called Kansas City Land Bank nor the promises of Mayor Sly James from atop a non-union bulldozer have changed much about the danger that lurks inside so many Kansas City vacant houses.

Body possibly inside home demolished by fire

Drug activity inside burned vacant home

Expect more metro area vacant houses in the future despite a so-called "fiscal cliff" solution and, so far, creating vast empty tracts of land by way of demolition is the best solution on the table.

DEVELOPING . . .

How about some investigative journalism on former city councilman/civic player Richard Tolbert who has homesteaded in inner-city vacant homes for years. Tolbert preys on elderly black property owners who get heaped on with code violations and fines from his illegal dumping and living in inhabitable structures. When police get called by property owners wanting him removed, he attempts to intimidate them with legalese and filing OCC complaints. Follow him "home" one night and you will see. He hasn't paid a dime for housing in years. This one piece would tie together the prolific abuse of Kansas City government by the same minority players for decades, issues with city control of PD, refusal of mainstream media to report anything negative about a person of color, etc.

Maybe Richard Tolbert is simply using one of the late Charlie Williard's rentals. They always looked pretty much like vacant dangerous buildings.

That house (pictured) must be in KC's Green Zone.
