TKC BREAKING EXCLUSIVE NEWS AND THE SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST!!! KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES PREPARE TO FIGHT THE TOY TRAIN STREETCAR!!!

It's important to understand that it's merely a feeble scheme and barely legal structure which supports Kansas City's Downtown Toy Train.

The $100+ million dollar project is dependent on a flimsy loophole and keeping the overwhelming majority of Kansas City voters out the process.

Sadly, even a preliminary look at how much this ponzi scheme is going to raise taxes on businesses and inconvenience everyone inside the so-called "Transit Development District" will reveal that pushback is inevitable.

To wit . . .

LOOK FOR MORE IMPORTANT OPPOSITION AGAINST THE TOY TRAIN FROM A NEW COALITION OF BUSINESSES WHO DON'T WANT TO PAY FOR THE PRICEY KANSAS CITY FOLLY AND ITS HYPOTHETICAL AND COMPLETELY UNSUBSTANTIATED BENEFITS!!!

Previously, there was talk about opposition to the train but the old ways of opposition to these projects don't seem to be working. Writing a letter to The Star is no longer an effective strategy because they aren't accepting much opinion that defies their talking points. In fact, as we approach this RIGGED election they are PUBLISHING NOTHING BUT ONE PRO-TOY TRAIN PIECE AFTER THE NEXT.

Also, old school anti-tax advocates were relying on the funding and leadership from Mr. Peanut but he's pretty much out of the loop and isn't going to bankroll opposition to the toy train any time soon.

And so . . . Kansas City small downtown biz is soon to get together and might present a legal challenge to this $100 million+ scheme that only has the support of less than 500 voters.

THE STRATEGY TO FIGHT THE TOY TRAIN IS MULTIFACETED BUT THE MOST EXCITING ASPECT OF IT WILL HINGE ON THE FACT THAT DOWNTOWN BIZ OWNERS WERE NOT ALLOWED ANY PARTICIPATION IN THE ELECTION PROCESS!!!

Toy train supporters claim that these are "Johnson County" complaints akin to the same arguments over the e-tax. However, it's also important to understand that with such limited funding, only a small sliver of support and so early in the process ...

EVEN A MINOR LEGAL CHALLENGE COULD THROW THE KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN TOY TRAIN COMPLETELY OFF TRACK!!!

Really, I'm surprised Clay Chastain hasn't filed anything yet.

Thankfully, yet another political scheme that cuts voters and taxpayers out of the process could soon face a serious challenge.

And all of this has inspired tonight's playlist . . .

As always, thank you for reading this week and have a safe and fun Saturday night.

  1. Sly James won't like this TKC. You'll need to explain yourself.

  2. A lot of people don't like the train but don't dare mention Chastain's name. He'll come back with his own plan that's far more expensive.

  3. First, nobody even reads The Star so whatever they write is useless.

This too will be a disaster for KC. This toy train is a joke. I'm moving to Kansas.

  4. Crosby Kemper 3 and his cuzin Jonathan are cranky because they aren't calling the shots. Get over yourselves boys.

  5. Thank you Kempers for having the guts to take a stand against. Other downtown business leaders didn't or more likely they got sweetheart deals (State Street, DST, etc)

    ReplyDelete
  6. The Kempers don't have guts in this case. They're just mad they're not getting things done their way. If they can't pick the colors of the streetcars, they're not gonna be happy.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Um, ok. Because waiting until after the second election is a totally logical time to START the opposition. Is this just the Filter Lady looking for a payoff? Probably.

  8. The whole deal is like a bad case of anal itch - no matter how satisfactorily you deal with the situation, it is still going to stink. The only real variable is who will be stuck with the stench.

Now in Mayberry we had a trolley. Ole Jebediah had these two mules and they would pull that dang thing around town all day long on just two bales of hay.

You city people just need to get you a few mules and get some of them east siders to working driving them cars around town. save a whole heap of money doing it that way. As for the mule poop best thing every for a lawn makes that grass shoot right up all pretty and green. City whould have some of the best fertilizer ever for all them parks.

  10. Maybe we could put the KCFD ambulances on the tracks too. Save money. Improve response times.

  11. Nice one T. Maybe you can take the train and commute to LA?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I work downtown, last thing we need is more congestion at am and pm rush. Dont get me started on the pm rush northbound heart of america, traffic is horrible so two bike riders could have their own lane. Kc politics is ridiculous.

  13. Like the playlist. My favorite, Gladys Knight and the Pimps.

  14. Damn, T. I saw a story about trash and a traffic jam on local news tonight. Does kc just shut down for the weekend? I guess so.

  15. If the city council can overturn a streetcar plan approved by a majority of voters city-wide, which they did, the business owners who could not vote on but who are expected to pay for this farce should certainly be able to do the same.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yes, nothing says democracy like letting big business "leaders" (aka corporate welfare queens) who live elsewhere decide for us.

Corporations are (the most important) people, too, my friend...

  17. Bitching about traffic in KC makes you sound like a bumpkin, dude.

    ReplyDelete
  18. LOL @ TKC doesn't know what a "ponzi scheme" is.

  20. Hey, Sue, keep whining, its working. Everyone agrees with you (in Johnson County).

    ReplyDelete
  21. Defeat the street car, make Russ Johnson go away.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Defeat the Filter Queen and the Kempers. Let the will of the people rule.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Russ Johnson needs to be the subjecr if a recall election.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Traffic congestion in downtown KCMO? Are you high 11:08?
Even at pm rush, you can get out of downtown and over Heart Of America Bridge in ten or twelve minutes.

Johnson County has worse traffic than downtown.
