Forbes news for people with enough cash to invest in something other than lottery tickets: "Kansas City Life Insurance Co. (NASD: KCLI) will trade ex-dividend, for its quarterly dividend of $0.27, payable on 12/21/12."

  4. All the big companies are doing this in anticipation of what is going to happen next year. Whether we fall off the fiscal cliff or Obama gets his obsession, these companies are going to pay. So they are distributing these funds this year.
