TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY POLITICAL INSIDERS TELL US THAT GOV. JAY NIXON WILL BE POWERLESS FACING A "NO VETO" MAJORITY IN BOTH MISSOURI HOUSE AND SENATE!!!

Kansas City political insiders tell us that Gov. Jay may win his race evening but this election night will be anything but a victory for one of the State's top Democratic politicos.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY TOP POLITICAL INSIDERS PREDICT THAT AFTER TONIGHT GOV. JAY NIXON WILL BE FACING A VETO PROOF MISSOURI HOUSE AND SENATE!!!

More . . .

THERE'S A LOT OF BLAME TO SHARE IN THIS GOP "NO VETO" DOMINANCE BUT KANSAS CITY INSIDERS ARE POINTING THEIR FINGER AT THE LACK OF DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP FROM GOV. JAY - WHO DIDN'T HELP ANY OTHER DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE IN THIS ELECTION CYCLE!!!

In so many words . . . Kansas City's political elite are calling Gov. Jay a sellout or at least noting that he has only looked out for his own reelection self-interest.

Where are Democrats losing seats?

STL

Kansas City population remains steady and controlled by the Democratic Party. However, STL is losing population and redistricting hurt their numbers badly. Even worse, suburban sprawl in STL is diluting Democratic strongholds. In other parts of Missouri, Rural areas continue to turn "red" and the legacy of Union Democratic voting is disappearing.

And so . . .

Democratic Party big shots expect to do reasonably well in some of the top seats. Sen. Claire's polling picked up in the last few days, Chris Koster's spot as AG looks secure and of course Gov. Jay should trounce his joke of an opponent. But the future of the state is increased GOP dominance.

Perspective on what the impact of this fact of life will be . . .

"(Gov.) Jay is going to be running for President the second he's sworn in for a second term. But he'll be doing so as a powerless figurehead. Because he didn't help any other Democrat, his job duties will be mostly ceremonial."

And here's the even scarier part . . .

A Kansas City Political Insider advises . . . "Missouri is becoming just as much of a 'Red State" as Kansas only more Conservative and crazy. If Democrats want to stay competitive. They need to understand this new reality."

Expect a Steve Kraske column on all of these trends Democrat insiders are talking about NOW sometime in December. Natch.

Meanwhile, Kansas City remains the lone Democratic stronghold in a State that hasn't just lost its "bellwether" status but just might be the epicenter of Midwestern reactionary culture in backward rural areas.

  3. The democratic legislators lost redistricting in 2002 so badly they are forever lost. Across the state it is about 53.5 - 46.5 republicans so the legislative seats should be about 53.5% republicans. Instead it is about 68%. That blame can be squarely placed on redistricting in both 2002 & 2012. The democratic party is horrendous on it. And in 2001, 2002 they had the majority and got schooled by Catherine hanaway.

  4. I like how Tony pretends this is brand new information. Gov. Jay isn't helping his fellow democrats. Wow. EXCLUSIVE! We've only heard this all year and consistently for the last two months.

Hey, I got a tip for Tony: Peter Kinder says stupid things on twitter. And Chris Koster, well he used to be a Republican.

Way to go, TKC! Getting more useless by the day.

  5. Jay Nixon will be running for President the day after the election?
    President of what?
All of these folks are always running for something else and mostly away from their dismal records of not doing anything in the taxpayer supported positions they're already in.
Over, and over, and over again!

  6. Missouri started turning red over a decade ago. Look how many times Akin has been re-elected to Congress. Hartzler was put in office by a comfortable margin and will stay there this time. Nixon is just as big of a bible-thumper as any Republican.
Throw in the lazy, meth-head, dope smoking, "give me my disability check and a case of beer", white trash that live in small town Missouri and ...PRESTO....red state.

  7. Many people have failed the Dem party the last 4 plus years. But it is naive to blame Nixon when he is showing the only real path for a Dem to get elected statewide (note how CONSERVATIVE all of the D's have run).

If we want to bemoan the lack of Dem senators, then look to the leadership or lack thereof within our caucus. Jay will spend every dime he has, but there sits Callahan with over $600,000 in the bank, as the minority leader, termed out and not on the ballot, and he is doing NOTHING to help ANYONE! Exhibit A for the failure of the Dem party right there folks. Lazy self interest over all else.

  10. When you look around the state and nation and see those areas that consistently vote Democrat...do you say to yourself..."Yes, they really have it together"? If you are not an entitlement program recipient and you are voting Democrat you will regeret it someday or you will be on an entitlement program.

  11. Just skip the Gubernatorial race and let Spence win. Then we do not have even deal with a Nixon candidacy for President -- which does not have a chance in hell of getting through the D Primaries.

  12. If Obama loses, Jay Nixon will be a serious candidate for the Dems in 2012. Red state popular governor who will promise fiscal sanity, business friendly policy, and will be pro-labor. He won't win, but he will appeal to the midwest Dems and could run a strong campaign if he can isolate the moderates in the party and someone else splits the lefty votes. Think--Nixon, OMalley, Patrick on the ballot in Iowa?

  13. Nixon cannot win in a Democratic Primary.

    ReplyDelete
  14. So every time Nixon leaves the state, the Lt. Gov. assumes the powers of the Governorship? So every time that Jay Nixon seeks to waste his time in New Hampshire, Iowa or South Carolina Gov. Kinder (because Jay did nothing for Montee) takes command?

There are Dems who have the goods on Nixon's misdeeds and they will drop the dime on him if he has one thought of running for Prez.

  18. Check this out, posted from the Daily KOS on June 20 about the treasuerer (clearly a national repub hack), also note that this guy has a law office by/with Jeff Roe:

"Meanwhile, a new Super PAC called "Secure Arizona" is out with a new ad that goes for Republican Jeff Flake's jugular. First, it leads off with footage of Jeff Flake admitting that he "lied" when he pledged to only serve three terms in the House, then poses the ominous question: "What else is Jeff Flake dishonest about?" The spot alleges that Flake flip-flopped on his initial support for the Keystone XL pipeline, ultimately "siding with Obama" and Nancy Pelosi. Size of the buy, though? A miniscule $8K, which apparently buys only 30 rotations on Fox News—in other words, this is yet another glorified video press release.

And who's behind this Super PAC, anyway? Its treasurer is Kansas City, MO attorney James C. Thomas III, a Republican who served on Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon's legislative redistricting panel and is also a dedicated Axis & Allies enthusiast. I guess he must be a Wil Cardon enthusiast, too. (That's Flake's self-funding primary opponent.) (James L)"
