Early CPR and defibrillation are what save lives.
ReplyDeleteDid the family care enough to start CPR? When did the fire truck arrive? Did the fire truck attach the automatic defibrillator as soon as they arrived?
Don't count on KC to save your life.
ReplyDeleteEd Ford was right, wasn't he.
ReplyDelete6:53, you should eat shit. Did the family know CPR? Have you ever had someone in your life have a heart attack in your presence? It's shocking and paralyzing. That's why we pay taxes, including a public safety sales tax, to bring professionals to emergencies.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is, KCFD can't deliver. Smokey let them slide, and bulldozed anyone who asked questions.
Now citizens are stuck with crappy ambulance service that harms people and maybe kills them.
Ed Ford was more than right...Public safety in KC has nothing to do with what is right, even if a Emt, Paramedic or FF wants to do the right thing, they are bound by the policies that you are seeing is proving a pure failure here in KCMO,
ReplyDeleteUntil the upper brass get their dicks out of the councils asses, nothing will ever change...look, if you live here you get what you get, this shit is already 2 years old with poor response times etc, But taxpayers wont hold city government or any of the departments accountable for anything!!! Hope you are healthy if you live here!!! Your life depends on it in KCMO!!!
All the more reason to go take a first aid class and get your CPR cards.
ReplyDeleteStep up and do a little more to take care of yourself instead of sitting around expecting everyone else to save you.
Super Dave you should do the same, are you certified in CPR and First aid?) I am! If you go into CA I hope you live alone moron!
ReplyDeleteYou should take some classes on common sense, and a core class on stop judging others because your life sucks! Once you work through that you might want too focus on just getting a life of your own!
Wow, take an anger management class. Early cpr saves lives. Even if a fire truck gets there in 2 minutes, serious damage to your brain can occur.
DeleteIgnorance and vendettas are dangerous bedfellows...
ReplyDeleteKCMO has better cardiac arrest save rates than MAST or for that matter, he vast majority of emergency medical services in the nation.
I have all my cards and am current.
ReplyDeleteI as well was but due to time have dropped was as well a KS cert EMT
9:02. "If you go into CA"?
ReplyDelete"CA" is the medical abbreviation for cancer dipshit.
And apparently the family are medical experts because they say it was the delayed response of the ambulance that killed him.
Well, if these medical experts would have immediately started CPR like I'm sure they were instructed by the dispatchers, maybe THAT would have increasewd his survival chances until the fire truck got their with their defibrillator.
Not defending a 21 minute response time but did Fire make the call?
ReplyDeleteIts unfortunate what happened but they need to tell the whole story. If all they sent was the ambulance thats on dispatch for not sending the correct resources. My guess when 911 was called the caller stated it was a chest pain or cardiac arrest but the article doesnt say what was said. In KCMO both a Fire truck & ambulance goes on high priority medicals such as those. If the caller stated the patient was "sick" generic use then it was probably just the ambulance dispatched. Dispatch goes off of what the 911 caller says for those of you whove never called 911.
The core of the city is where the bulk of your calls are. So, when you have multiple 911 calls going on in a certain area then you start pulling resources from other parts of the city. KCMO has a large area to cover & a large call volume. Just because you have a Firehouse in your neighborhood doesnt mean theyll be the ones answering your 911 call.
Once again its unfortunate what happened.
One more thing DO GET CERTIFIED IN CPR! No matter what you read in some of the earlier comments IT IS IMPORTANT! Its amazing what JUST chest compressions will do for somebody in cardiac arrest until medical personnel arrives.
@10:12
ReplyDelete+100
9:26 Thats great spin KCFD!, but if you cant make response times how are you coming up with such great cardiac arrest save data?
ReplyDeleteAfter all in cardiac arrest, for every minuet that goes by without intervention, the patient loses a 10 percent chance of survival for every minuet gone by without that intervention!!
With KCFD's response times, if you are a KCMO resident serviced by KCMO's KCFD/EMS current system....well you are fucking DEAD if you go into Cardiac Arrest here!!!!
Btw what does MAST have to do with anything? Last I knew MAST doesn't exist and KCFD is in the news more and more with response time failures since your failure took over!!! Time for KCFD to
take responsibility for once!
KCFD took over MAST, now they need to do what it takes to live up to the quality service MAST gave to this community all the years Mast was here! And live up to their promise that by taking over Mast it would be better for the Kansas City citizens, so far KCFD has proven the very opposite!!
One day FF from KCFD may move from "monkey" status to actually being the hero they set out to be when they got into this line of work. (its earned, not entitled!!)so get out there and do what we as tax payers expect from you and stop letting us down!
As a tax payer I would love too hear the good things you have done for this community, instead of what you CANT do, or what you wont do or get what you want to fulfill your own personal interests, like higher pay in a recession, pensions etc etc!!!
I always thought people in your profession do what you do, because of a passion you have for the public you SERVE, and their well being before your own, which for a true hero would be no less than selfless and humble in every way at all times!!
Your game is coming too light just so you know!
Wow someones going to be crying themselves to sleep on their cock shaped pillow tonight....
DeleteJust so you know, people stop reading your crap when you spell words wrong. Even more so when you spell minute wrong twice in a pargraph. I may be a "monkey" fireman, but at least I can spell.
Have a nice day :)
10:09 you said it best : it would have "increasewd" his survival chances,( did you mean inscrewed) especially if a fire truck showed up with a defibrillator, guess it would have depended on the fire truck response times and the competence of the responding monkey crew..
ReplyDeleteOh and CPR is awesome, many know how to do it many don't and its a great thing for people to know, which can make a difference. People count on you morons to save lives!! so if someone you run a cardiac arrest call on does not know cpr...now its their fault the person died...KCFD always passing the buck at every turn!!! BTW the woman in the video stated she did compressions!
10:33. Where has anyone blamed the family for his death? All I have seen is people posing questions.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure the autopsy report did not list the cause of death as "delayed ambulance response". That's the assumption that the medical experts in this mans family have come to.
I told you this would happen...
ReplyDeleteWell folks as well I can tell you from more than one past experience sometimes a doctor could be standing there with an ALS unit and it still not be enough.
ReplyDeleteAnd to be honest there might be a lot of facts we don't know here and may never know.
I know EMS isn't good in KC 100% of the time and for that matter it might not be anywhere, but till the leaders get off their asses and fix it, what you see is what you have. So do what you can to protect and help yourselves till the fucknut leaders of KC get their act together.

I see Tony is removing peoples comments...
ReplyDelete10:45 you didnt see that in 10:09's post?
ReplyDelete11:00. No. I see where that post suggests it may have increased his chances. I don't see where it blames them for his death. Big difference.
ReplyDelete10:48 It does not matter what the family thinks or what you think the family knows..its what the lawyers they hired find as factual in a 21 minuet response time and the impact that may have had on a citizen that is now DEAD. It shouldn't be real hard in this case, and I hope they sue the very local government that has fucked up EMS in Kansas City Missouri!!!
ReplyDeleteLearn to spell!
DeleteThe reason they didnt deploy Gladstone in mutual aid is because KCFD are arrogant fucks!!
ReplyDeleteWell I know this... This morning at the Apple Store, four of KCFD's finest, wearing their big-boy fire fighter pants, walked into the Apple store to play with the electronic toys. Maybe their XBoxes were broken. I didn't see a pumper truck anywhere close so not sure how all four got there but they looked on-duty to me.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if they'd study up on how to provide better services as opposed to playing video games and checking out iPads and iPhone 5's, they could get to places a little faster and be a better run organization. At least outwardly they'd look as though they gave a shit.
That arrogance may have cost a life!! KCFD you are heros!
ReplyDelete9:26 I would love to see that report!! do you have it in a PDF?
ReplyDeleteAre we really supposed to believe it took 21 minutes for an ambulance to drive 3 1/2 miles from the station that it responded from? Highly doubt it.
ReplyDeleteAnd this incident took place over TWO years ago. Why is everyone commenting on here like it just happened?
11:16.
ReplyDeletehttp://kcur.org/post/report-more-kansas-citians-surviving-cardiac-arrest
National average in 2011 is 10.3% hospital dischagre. KCFD rate is 11.1%.
11;14 they are always on duty ..its a duty of fucking each other in the butt, I am sure they appeared on duty because thats the appearance they always try to sell! I am sure the butt buddies all piled into a van after shift to get their monkey sex on..they probably stopped off at the apple store because while on shift the night before a monkey dropped his phone while pile driving his co worker..the reason they all showed up is because they have a motto...no brother left behind, they do everything together !!! they swing from trees together, they vote together, they sleep together and with each other!
ReplyDeleteWow its pretty obivous that you're just a kansas city fire hater, probably an overworked ems person or some volly from out in the sticks. We get it, you don't like the kcfd. But come on, you really think they are butt buddies? You really think they're monkeys? Bet you wouldn't have said shit to that group of men at the apple store if you were there, just a big talker behind your keyboard. You suck
DeleteI know this because my step sisters son works for KCFD and when he drinks and snorts coke...he sings like a canary!!

Nice link thanks: kinda worried about the credits though-
ReplyDeleteCredit Dr. Joseph Salomone / KCFD
Cardic arrest survival rates in Kansas City are at an all-time high, according to KCFD's latest report.
I am not worried about Dr Salomone, I happen to know of him and he is a level headed DR. But that was "ACCORDING" to KCFD's latest report - look, we are looking for national stats not stats that can be bought and spun here locally...MAST held NATIONAL statistics on Cardiac arrest saves for years...so again where are your facts..???
11:17 that's a good point but cover ups take time to reach the public!!!
ReplyDelete11:41. It is tracked by "CARES" which is a division of the Centers for Disease Control. All of those numbers were provided through that organization.
ReplyDeleteI think the widow needs to lay off the Cheeto's and ice cream.
ReplyDeletehttp://mediad.publicbroadcasting.net/p/kcur/files/201207/KCMOCardiacArrestData.PNG
ReplyDeleteMAST survival rates were 10.5% in 2009, 5.9 % in 2008 and 10.3% in 2007.
ReplyDeleteHopefully people who are reading this blog can tell when somebody is telling the truth & knows what theyre talking about compared to the person who just HATES the KCFD & will put their own twist on a story to make the dept look as bad as they possibly can.
ReplyDeleteI do not work for the KCFD but I would assume the SOP's MAST had are very similar to the current KCFD ambulance SOP. I doubt theyve rewritten the entire SOP manual, but could be wrong. Im sure htis would be the place to get the facts.....
@1023 when you say level of service MAST gave, well arent most of KCFD ambulances staffed with ex MAST employees? So, their level of care has changed because of the name on the shirt?
@1033 Im guessing youve done compressions on somebody before. How long do you think she lasted doing GOOD compressions? I know it sounds bad but physical fitness does play a role. Thats why every 2 minutes youre suppose to switch on the chest.
Also @1033 the part about when somebody dies its the callers fault because they dont know CPR is a COMPLETE BS statement! We go thru the same CPR class that the greeter at Wal Mart goes thru. Early CPR saves lives period. ITS ALL ABOUT RAISING THE CHANCES OF SURVIVAL & GETTING THE HEART IN A SHOCKABLE RHYTHM. Best way to do that Chest Compressions.
ALSO FOR SOME NEW PEOPLE TO THIS SITE. TAKE A LOOK AT OTHER STORIES THAT ARENT DEALING WITH THE KCFD. THIS SITE IS FULL OF A BUNCH OF NEGATIVE PEOPLE! JUST READ THEIR COMMENTS & THINK ABOUT LIVING YOUR LIFE LIKE THAT! THIS SITE IS ALMOST DEPRESSING BUT THEN I REALIZE IM NOT A LOSER!
11:55 here is what I say, if we had a competent Fire and EMS service in KCMO they WOULDNT constantly be in the news if they were doing what they are paid to do.
ReplyDeleteRarely do I hear about the several surrounding fire and ems services which combined serve just as many people if not more than KCFD, yet you never hear about their failures, thats because they do the job they are paid to do...we as tax payers in KC dont want to hear about what the fire/ems dept in KC isnt doing for us, we want to hear about what they ARE doing for us!! after all the tax payers are the ones who pay their wages!
You don't hear about all the good the fire department does because when we do a good job, that's our job. Were supposed to do a good job. When something bad happens, everyone hates on us. The men and women that works the streets in kcmo have VERY thick skin, and no amount of internet trolls are going to effect how good we do our jobs. Were always going to do the best we can.
Delete11:55 sounds like you are selling spin to potential new people that may visit this blog tonight...dont be so righteous after all you are the company you keep, and you still post here!!
ReplyDelete11:46 CARES may track the numbers, but they track the numbers based off the numbers given to them, I doubt they are in dispatch making sure the numbers sent to them are honest...there is NOTHING HONEST about KCFD!!!! So what ever number Cares get...are you SERIOUS!!!
ReplyDelete11:55 a good portion of the Mast people have left, I am sure they did because EMS was the top priority of the fire dept right?
ReplyDelete1:07. As an ER nurse, I can assure you that "a good portion" of the MAST people are still working for KCFD. I still see the same old faces that I have seen over the past 15 years.
ReplyDeleteSkewing the statistical bullshit again, in a statistical bullshit world !!!
ReplyDelete"He was gasping for air".
ReplyDeleteProbably because her fat ass was on top of him...
I wish people would stop posting, using my name.
ReplyDeleteYour name is "Anonymous"?
DeleteStatisticly if CPR is not started in 4 min the victim will not walk out of the hospital. Are the taxpayors willing to spend the money to have an ambulance or firestation with in 4 minutes (including the time it takes to call 911) of every house in the 400 square miles of the city?
ReplyDeleteWill they even attend free CPR classes?
Nope its much easier to blame someone else for being a fat bastard with heart disease...
Delete4:11, no, we pretty much hate you all the time.
ReplyDeleteNo go on back to your XBox or the Playboy Channel.
Someday all that hate will catch up with you and someone will straighten you out. Hope its me
DeleteIf the city had local control over the pd this would have been avoided
ReplyDeleteMaybe it was just his time to croak.
ReplyDelete5:38 AM. You're a chump.
