SHOCK!!! NCR EDITOR RIPS BISHOP FINN FOR FUNDRAISING LETTER WHICH RAISES THE QUESTION: WILL YOU BE GIVING TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH THIS CHRISTMAS?!?!

The National Catholic Reporter is a "progressive" publication that has consistently criticized Bishop Finn amid the recent sex scandal which seemingly ended in a misdemeanor guilty charge for failing to report abuse.

However . . .

EDITOR TOM ROBERTS RIPS BISHOP FINN FOR A RECENT FUNDRAISING LETTER IN EPIC FASHION CITING THE RECENT CATHOLIC SEX SCANDAL DRAMA!!!

Check the damage for yourself:

Bishop's Annual Appeal letter doesn't have much appeal

Now the column juxtaposes Bishop Finn with some other KC cleric who was before my time but here's the money quote that really takes apart Bishop Finn's ask for cash from Kansas City's faith community:

"Back in Kansas City, Finn revives the bishop-as-victim theme by noting, in a paragraph that obliquely refers to his criminal conviction:

"“In the days following the long legal struggles that not only confronted the diocese and me, but all the people of God in our Catholic community, we try to get past our own hurt.”

"The arrogance and deflection of the truth in that statement is simply breathtaking. The hurt the church endures is none other than Finn’s insistence on staying in office. The “legal struggles” that confronted the diocese and Finn had nothing to do with the People of God, a phrase that, given his ultra conservative ecclesiology in every other circumstance, is a purely opportunistic use of the populist notion of that Vatican II phrase. Finn, the Opus Dei priest and doctrinal stickler, suddenly becomes victim and Vatican II liberal in one fell swoop.

"Perhaps Finn feels some pain asking the People of God for their money, knowing that implicit in handing over their money would be a certain trust of his stewardship of the diocese. And he has done everything possible to obliterate that trust."

And all of this Kansas City Catholic bickering begs the question:

WILL YOU BE GIVING THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN KANSAS CITY YOUR CASH THIS CHRISTMAS GIVEN THEIR NAUGHTY SEX SCANDAL CONVICTION THIS YEAR?!?!

Some say that it's important to support all of the good work the Church does and that they have now moved past the drama . . . Meanwhile, otherS can never forgive any crime that puts children at risk.

Remember that most American Catholics only visit Church on X-Mas and Easter so this is a really crucial fundraising time of year.

Luckily, I'm broke and I don't have any cash to give because I'm living in a basement for Christ's sake.

Still . . . I'm curious about what some of you other d-bags might be thinking.

DEVELOPING . . .

  2. What does this have to do with fundraising? You blast headlines
about the 1% of priests while trying to bring down the other 99%.
Similar percentages hold true in schools. Should we stop funding schools?

  3. Jesus told the rich man to give his money to the poor. The Catholic Church is one of the richest organizations in the world, yet they still tell the poor to give their money to them.

  4. well- in the schools we FIRE the people who knew about the abuse and didnt tell as well as the abuser. pretty big deal! the 99 are putting themselves in jeopardy by not calling on their bosses to use their authority in a responsible manner. And I will be giving to my parish this year and every year. I only give material goods, they do great things with the food and clothing I bring them. Cant really give them money because I know the bishop grifts 10% off the top. For SHAME.

  5. My letter went straight in the trash can.
True, the money goes to all the good the "church" does, but just this once, I need to send a message. I'll find another way to put that money to good use.

  6. Tony is right.

The link is worth the read.

Eviscerating and dead on the money.

Finn's continued presence on the local stage is mysterious and counter productive.

I wouldn't hold out too much hope for the church to change. You're better off making your peace with it.

  13. Hell no. I am Catholic but have not given to the diocese for years BECAUSE of the way they have covered up. When I make a donation, I ask my parish what ITEM(S) they need & purchase that item for them. Same with the Catholic school my kids went to. THINGS not cash. This is because the diocese gets a percentage of every cash donation to a parish.

  14. What's to think about?
    No. Not a penny.

  15. This Finn has something on somebody, I mean come on it makes no sense that he still is in the position he is in.

  16. Agree with Dave. Finn has no business being in charge.

Did you read the column. The author said that Finn wouldn't be allowed to be a priest with his record now.

  17. Returned my letter with brief note saying as long as Finn stays Bishop my money stays in my wallet. Finn is guilty!! He has a record now. He is evil. He is not suitable nor worthy to be bishop.
Benedict, give Bishop Finn da boot!
