Last night Kansas City counted another homicide on local streets.
Here is the report . . .
On 11/25/2012 at 9:10 pm officers were dispatched to the 5000 blk of east 24th street on a reported shooting. Upon arrival officers discovered a male victim in a vehicle. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline 816.474.8477

TRAGICALLY, KANSAS CITY'S POLITICAL ELITE HAVEN'T DONE MUCH TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM AND INSTEAD MAYOR AND COUNCIL HAVE MOSTLY FOCUSED ON THE TOY TRAIN AND ECO-DEVO WORK!!!
This morning KC's homicide rate remains pretty much where it was last year with an unacceptable number of murders occurring on this town's East Side.

We are about at the same level as last year--and we are above where we were in 2010--at this point in 2010 we were at 93 homicides. In all of 2010 there were 106 homicides, so we are virtually certain to be higher this year than in 2010. So, while Sly James has some real accomplishments to his credit, the crime situation has gotten worse on his watch and he needs to pay more attention to it. Take care!! DeleteIf you add the Federal, state, county, city, foundation, corporate, and private money that is spent on "anti-crime" programs in KCMO, the total would be close to $100 million. And no one pays any attention to how the money is spent, whether there is any coordination among not-for-profits or with the police, or whether the programs are addressing current needs or are just the same old folks doing what they do year after year. Aim4Peace is a joke and has no impact on crime in KCMO, but gets to waste $600 grand year after year on picnics and motorcycle rides. And if they were "fully funded" they'd just be wasting that much more money.
ReplyDeleteUntil elected and appointed officials in KCMO and east side leadership get serious about having the KCPD and neighborhood residents begin working together on making the community safer for everyone, nothing's going to change.
At least nothing good. The neighborhoods will continue to deteriorate, people who can will move away, and the violence will contue to spread to other parts of the city.
Neglecting and ignoring public safety isn't working and neither will all the neat high-tech toys (see following story) or programs brought in from out of town.
Some "leaders" need to accept their responsiblities.
