TODD AKIN: STILL THE GOP ACHILLES' HEEL

A bit of perspective to start the morning.

Missouri is no longer a "bellwether" in the classic sense of the term. Elections in the Show-Me state are now generally ruled by Republicans and big donations.

But there's another game where Missouri seems to be at the apex of the American cultural discourse.

IT SEEMS THAT TODD AKIN STUPIDITY COULD GIVE THIS ELECTION TO SEN. CLAIRE AND PREZ OBAMA!!!


Time has passed and so many arguments from Democrats hinge on Rep. Todd Akin's tragic remarks. While it might be unfair to stereotype all of the GOP with a gross misunderstanding of biology and/or compassion, there is no denying that GOP policy and rhetoric have taken a hardline toward abortion and birth control. Now, the "rub" in all of this is that opposition toward baby murder abortion and skank hatertion encouragement of values that might make birth control less of a controversial issue are not vices in and of themselves. Some might blame media or Democratic spin machines and ignore the fact that Todd Akin's errors were unforced and whenever his campaign is on record something politically damaging seems to be spouted forth.

Clearly, Rep. Todd Akin and his misstatements have provided the leverage the Democrats need to stay competitive and possibly win crucial victories that will make this election far different from the Tea Party sweep in 2010. What's interesting is that most middle-of-the-road voters may not disagree with the principles supporting the twisted logic of politicos like Todd Akin - Abortion is a horrific practice after all. However, in the final analysis, it seems that Todd Akin's arrogance and the entitlement culture of reactionaries who believe the mere virtue of their opinions will garner support seems to be their downfall. In other words and playing to superstitions during this silly spooky season: If it's true that the U.S. is still home to a silent majority of faith-based voters of good conscience then this demographic might realize that PRIDE, Satan's favorite sin, has played a key role in Republican struggles as we slouch toward the election.
