Jason Kander to Debut Ad, Tough Calls, During Today’s Cardinals Playoff Game
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missouri Secretary of State candidate Jason Kander today announced that he will debut his television ad, titled Tough Calls, during the St. Louis Cardinals playoff game on TBS.
The ad discusses how Kander’s experiences signing up for the Army after 9/11, volunteering to serve in Afghanistan, and helping to balance Missouri's budget without raising taxes, have prepared him to make the tough calls as Missouri’s next Secretary of State.
Part of the ad features a visual of the combat boots Kander wore in Afghanistan, which have his blood type written on the side of them. Kander details how his experience in Afghanistan became real when medics had him and other soldiers write their blood types on their boots. The ad will begin airing statewide in a few days, as Kander has increased his buy from the initial reservation he placed in the summer, but can be viewed online immediately at www.jasonkander.com/toughcalls.
“Missouri’s next Secretary of State will need the courage to do what’s right and stand up to powerful special interests on behalf of Missouri families,” Kander said. “My experiences in the Army and in Afghanistan have shaped who I am and more importantly how I’ll approach the tough calls that come with this office.”
Jason Kander is a State Representative from Jackson County and previously served in the Army National Guard. As a military intelligence officer in the Army Reserve, Kander volunteered in 2006 for deployment and served in Afghanistan. In 2010, he was one of ten soldiers selected as national finalists for Army Reserve Outstanding Junior Officer of the Year. Rep. Kander currently serves on the Missouri Veterans Commission. Kander is a lawyer and lives with his wife Diana in Jackson County.

Capt. Kander served in the same area as I did in Afghanistan. Although I am a registered Republican, because he lives his Army values and is faithful to his oath to preserved and protect our Constitution, he will get my vote.
Good for him. It's nice to see KC so well represented.
That "blood type on the boots" will come in handy for Kander on November 7.
It is very relevant to the performance of duties as Secretary of State.
I wonder if Kander will write ballot language as well as he wrote his ethics reform legislation?
It wasn't that bad. Just unconstitutional.
Come join the army and learn the noises, that drown out the others voices, while power exploits us and peace avoids us.
Joined in 2006? Wtf?
I can understand an emotionally charged decision to enlist in the days after 9-1-1. But 5 years after the war in Afghanistan had begun, any REASONED assessment would recognize it was a fool's errand.
Building a CV is tough.
Kander was an attorney....in the army....on the front lines?
