Dr. Ernest Evans Explains . . .
"Right now KCMO is at 89 homicides for 2012--compared to 88 at this time last year. Washington, DC, a city with between 50% and 100% more people than KCMO (Depending on whether you count the huge number of people who live there year round but are not legal residents), is at 70 homicides for 2012--compared to 93 at this point in 2011. And, another important point: DC is a city that is 65% black; so all of the commentators on your blog who routinely blame KCMO's homicide surge in its black neighborhoods in the past four years on the alleged inferiority of black culture have a big problem to explain: How come DC's black neighborhoods are doing a fine job of keeping crime down?"

Tony, you're an idiot. Explain to me why minorities have a virtual monopoly on violent crime in every big city in America. Just because DC is having a good year (thanks trauma surgeons) doesn't excuse or diminish the generalized lawlessness you're trying to downplay.

Apples and Oranges! Washington DC has a median family income of $90K.
Niggers in DC can take the train to Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York and Boston to do they crimes. If we had better public transportation niggers in KCMO would do the same.
Inasmuch as the vast majority of murders in this town remain black on black, this sounds like more of a community problem than a police problem or a city problem. Perhaps the black community leaders of KC could tap into their counterparts in 'D.C. for some insight into what is working out there. Blacks don't trust the police nor do they seem to trust their elected leaders so the people closest to the action are probably best suited to get this figured out.
I'm glad that there is a reduction in crime in DC, however I don't see enough stats to make this a valuable article for our city, specifically in regard to racial stereotypes. It is always a great thing to do to analyze other cities efforts when crime seems to be in decline, but you have to dig deeper...is it really down, or just displaced to other jurisdictions, skewing the crime data? If it is down in the region overall...great then bring in the same ideas here. If not, then it's probably like Forte's hot spot program and largely ineffective. Just dig deeper into stats...just sayin

Excellent points. My first comment was vague. You nailed it with the KC community leaders tapping into thier DC counterparts.
KCPD, city hall, civic leaders, community leaders would all do well to research Washington DC's successful crime reduction efforts.
KCMO doesn't have a mayor who uses his bully pulpit to provide public leadership on public safety, a council that has even any interest in safer neighborhoods, a police board which has a clue about what's happening on the street, and no leadership on the east side which makes any effort at all in encouraging and empowering residents to enable them to play an active role in their own safety and to cooperate with the police.
There is no foundation in KCMO for any kind of program to be successful as an anti-crime effort. So as one out-of-town program after another are rolled out year after year, it's like scattering seed corn onto a concrete pad. Nothing works, nor will it until the elected and appointed officials in KCMO and real neighborhood leaders on the east side overcome the status quo, years of calling each other names, urban myths they maintain for their own selfish interests, and neglect of the critical issue of public safety, and seriously and vigorously assume the resposibilities of their offices.
Difficult, yes.
Complicated? Not at all.

DC 617000 people 4000 cops = 1 cop per around 150 people
KC 463000 people 1400 cops = 1 cop per 330 people
DC 68 square miles
KC 316 square miles
So 4000 cops in 68 square miles that would equal 58 cops per square mile. To do that in kansas city we would need over 18000 cops. Oh and we are picking up the tab for the DC cops also.
Evans says the same stats every few weeks/months. Nothin new here folks....keep walking.

According to the US Census, Washington DC is 50.7% black, NOT 65% black like you falsely claim.
The population of Washington DC (617,996) is 33% larger than Kansas City (463,202), NOT "50 to 100%" larger than you also falsely claim.
