All of this rape talk on the national political scene inspires a bit of contemplation.
To wit . . .
GIVEN THAT AMERICAN POLITICS IS NOW DEFINED BY RAPE DISCUSSION, IT'S APPROPRIATE TO IDENTIFY A FEW INSTANCES OF KANSAS CITY POLITICOS GETTING THEIR WAY WITHOUT CONSENT I.E. METAPHORICALLY RAPING COWTOWN VOTERS!!!

The Kansas City Downtown Toy Train Streetcar is akin to date rape because this town has flirted with the idea of rail transit for years but hasn't really given consent to this monstrosity.
Think the analogy is forced? Consider that the toy train has already raided Kansas City coffers without a single ballot being counted. And don't argue that the rigged and laughable "special taxing district" secret ballot qualifies as Democracy. Simply realize that most of Kansas City won't get to vote on this $100 million scheme but (in the long run) will be forced to pay for an effort that is more development effort than mass transit.
And then . . .
Behind the scenes the Downtown Hotel is described as an "inevitability" in a way that doesn't offer much of a chance for the opposition to say Stop, No or Don't.
Most voters haven't cast their ballot in favor of Mayor and Council spending so much time on this overly optimistic development that will be funded by taxpayers and run into the ground by city management.
Finally . . .
Kansas City Airport "improvement" doesn't need voter consent.

Didn't think so . . . This pricey City Council decision doesn't even bother to ask voters for permission. The effort simply pounces on local complacency and plans to be underway before the electorate wakes up . . . Call it the KCI "roofie" strategy.
And while this list is in remarkably bad taste . . . It won't cost a thing to ignore the stupid sensibility of TKC while these decisions from Mayor and City Council will have Kansas City paying dearly for their actions without voter consent for quite a long time.

A good list but not complete. You forgot about MAST.

And every week there is more spending that is just out of control.
There are many things the council does without voter consent. A good start TKC but you're just scratching the surface.
You are the greatest, Tony. The streetcar thing is so bizarre that even the KC Star is questioning it.
Don't forget after the new convention hotel is done, the convention center will have to be expanded in an effort to fill up yet another empty hotel.
And let's not forget the grandiose Mike Sanders Jackson County railroad plan. Sly thinks that's a good idea too!
After all, what's another couple hundred million taxpayers' dollars when folks like Sanders and Sly are building their legacies and dreaming about running for the next big thing?
You just have to wonder how much downtown KCMO "success" we can all afford!
