MBE/WBE East Patrol Discussion

Right now in the T&I Committee at City Hall they're talking about assuring MBE/WBE requirements in building the East Patrol.

Kind of ironic given that there was more than a bit of community opposition to the final location of East Patrol.

Also a bit funny . . . 3rd District At-Large Council Lady Melba Curls posed her first question about bids from local artists (ugh) adorning the structure.

Council dude Jermaine Reed has the same old conversation with HDR regarding City Hall monitoring minority participation. Human Relations stresses that they're not requiring companies to let go workers in order to meet MBE requirements.

And then there's more talk about exceeding goals when it comes to hiring minority contractors.

Interestingly, a note about Unions allowing a one-time exception for hiring, apprenticeship rules when it comes to MBE/WBE requirements on this project is interesting. This is the FIRST time that has happened according to one suit offering testimony.

And THAT is where I'm gonna stop watching . . .

Because The Revs are soon to take the stage and push their argument for more minority hiring which is important but also ironic in this project that didn't totally meet with community approval.

UPDATE: Follow-up on TKC reporting from The Star - KC pledges that minorities will help build patrol station

I thought that sweet ho in San Diego was the big story around here.

Tony was 10 years late to the internet game so it doesn't make any difference at this point what the ho is doing.

Shit you think Tony is bad now you ought to read all his old stuff.

Whens the slander suit start. Ruiz versus Botello? Or don't they sue their own kind?

True dat I don't think mexicans sue each other.

Please! Can we just have contractors of any color who can win a COMPETITIVE bidding (or proposal) process and who can do the job at a reasonable price?

We taxpayers are so tired of getting screwed by people of color (often backed by those without color) who are awarded contracts far beyond their capabilities.

Since the police department is going to have to live in this building for decades, even if the roof leaks, the foundation cracks, and the doors won't close, wouldn't it be better and easier to just take the millions of dollars that will be thrown away as usual and with the same old crowd and give them the money?
Just when you begin to wonder if things can get any worse on the east side, just throw a big wad of taxpayer money on the table and see who shows up!
And the city and establishment swells are TOO AFRAID to say anything, even though they already know exactly what's going to happen.
And the actual residents of the east side lose one more time. Why even make believe they have any representation?

The Revs sponsored this sham!

And don't forget the cost of fighting insompetent contractors in court and then paying them millions to go away since their attorneys aren't incompetent.

Oh, Santa, Baby!

Which of the revs owned a bunch of the lots for this thing?

Anonymous said...

The REV (he's black of course!). Do we really need to post his name? lol

Anonymous said...

So what's wong about the station on Van Brunt? Just build to the south on the open lot, then tear down the old place for expanded parking. At about a third of the cost.

Don't make me start naming fake MBE's that the city knows are fake yet still certify because of who they are or who they know. What ever happened to the Art Stiill J.E. Dunn issue? Ther's a attorney who did all the EPA fighting for the city over combined sewers that has a sewer pipe laying company now and the phone is answered by his law practice answering phone. Let's see, there the landscaper, the various construction companies and consultants. Let's just get rid of all the non minorities in the workforce so the phantom workers can show up. They don't exist. If they keep making such a stink it is only a metter of time before someone gets fed up and says, screww doing business with the city, I'm blowing this out of the water.

Nice line about the Revs TKC.
