KCPD CHIEF FORTÉ YEAR ONE

The Star offers their insight on the tenure of KCPD Chief Forté:

Hands-on Darryl Forté marks his first year as KC police chief

The article does a nice job of noting police transition throughout the year but really leaves out the opposition and challenges to so many KCPD changes from the rank & file.

Still . . . Everybody's being nice . . . On the record.

What a fluff article ,while his own officers hate him and his experience ones are retiring. The department is a model of discord. The murder rate is horrible more officers than ever in trouble and commander who are just marking time.Kcpd is a disaster waiting to happen.

Just another example of how the tired old Star is a big part of the problem of changing anything in KCMO. They just can't bring themselves to actually get out and work hard enough to get the facts, so they always go to the same sources who blow smoke up their skirts, which the paper's reporters run back to 17th and grand and promptly publish.
By any stretch of the imagination, whether it's early reitirements, morale, retention, or the homicde and clearance rates, the KCPD is in worse shape than when Forte' took over.
And the regular officers, who actually do the work, still have their raises, which have been frozen for three years, tied up in the endless "negotiations" with the city about medical insurance.
Public safety is th emost basic responsiblity of any level of government. It's really too bad KCMO pays little attention to it at all.
And now, on to the $100 million streetcar and the new taxpayer-funded downtown hotel.
You know; the important things.

go to the rank and file and talk to them about there good chief. off the record i havent found one policeman who even considers forte a good chief. they all say he s a yes man for the mayor. the chief is screwing his department by allowing the city to take control of there health care and backing control of the dept to the city. if city gets control what happen at frans with the mayors son will be every weekend routine and the police wont be allow to do anything about it.

I agree. And nice picture hitting on the females. Don't believe it?--ask the female sergeant in administration that filed sexual harassment and the board of police swept it under the rug.

Anonymous said...

Hell rank and file all can retire.

Anonymous said...

Fork Forte....lemme ax sumthin...does Forte not shave cause he suffers from Psuedo FuklicSlyitis.

Things work much better when the bureaucrats can't screw it up. Maybe we could outsource PD to Wells Fargo.

Wishing we were marking his disappearance.

8:48 please expand on your post regarding the female sgt and harassment that got swept under the rug.

Black mayor, black chief of police and black school board. Everything is up to date in Kansas City because it is now like any eastern city; it is now a dying city.

What a bunch of douche bags you all are. Hmmmm...

KC was a shithole for a P.D. when this guy took it over and he has been here for one year and the rank and file are pissed. GREAT!

It must mean he is doing something to rock the boat.

You P.O.S. 12:11 are you crying about all of the white chiefs of police that presided over this P.D. to make it the embarrassment that it has always been? Probably not you little racist bitch.

Ya he is doing something to rock the boat, putting unqualified people in very important positions. This will eventually cause the department to crumble from the inside.

Now go back to your spot, wherever it may be, we all know you are only here to fill a quota

Dear Mr. Tony: Thanks for posting. Chief Forte has taken some good steps as Chief, and I applaud him for doing so. But, facts must be faced: In the last full calender year before he became chief (2010) we were at 84 homicides at this time of year--in 2011 we were at 87 and now we are at 86. So, to date, he has not been successful in stopping the now more than four year old bloodbath in the black neighborhoods of the city. Now, in fairness to the Chief, the steps to stop this bloodbath are largely out of his control--we need action by the Police Board, the city's journalists, the Mayor and the community leaders--right now these "usual suspects" are spending all of their time and effort dodging the blame for the city's crime disaster rather than doing anything to stop it. Until that changes, expect "more of the same." Take care!! Sincerely and Respectfully, Ernest Evans

You offer no defense of Forte whatsoever. It's pretty clear the only reason you support him is that he is black. Instead of explaining why you think he's good, you do the only thing you know how to do: Point your finger and scream racist.

Virtually every change Forte has made has failed in its intended purpose. He is a failure.

I am not black and I agree with 1:16. He is far better than the last two cheifs, and let those rank and file who don't like him leave. There is so much bullshit attitude among the ranks in KCPD it is a wonder anything gets done...or no wonder it doesn't. There is no organization that needs a shake up more in my opinion.

And who cares what race he is or his commanders are. The white staff that dominated for ages sure as hell didn't do anything better than those in charge now.

That doesn't excuse the ones in charge

This Chief is currently bullying anyone who speaks out and might have a difference of an opinion on anything. Check the sources because it’s true.

8:48 is probably Cy Ritter who has been ruminating on Forte since he left the force a year ago. Give it a rest Cy. You quit, you're done, go do your work at the County. Quit stirring up baseless accusations against Chief Forte. You're going to get caught with your trouble making and then see where you'll be.

Forte is clearing the dead weight, holding people accountable and not playing the same old games. Sure he's making some folks mad, especially the usual grifters. But he can't undo in a few years what it took more than a generation to create. He's a good man doing good work.

He sexually harassed a female sgt, she went to her captain, who in turn forwarded the complaint. Female sgt was coerced into dropping complaint & the chief began to head hunt said captain. Captain had to retire to avoid chiefs wrath....when harassing the female sgt he referred to himself as Darryllicious! What a fucking mope!

Anonymous said...

But he’s bullying everyone down to the rank and file… I didn’t sign up for his beefs with the command nor was I a part of it. Just let me do my damn job and back me when I do... His personal beefs are trickling down to everyone. I'm embarassed to even say I'm a member.

Clearing dead weight?! What a fucking idiot!! KCPD is losing experienced officers at an astounding rate. The older ones are retiring early while the younger ones are leaving for other municipalities or up to the federal level. This isn't dead weight, this dept will NOT function without their experience. Some parts of the city are so undermanned that if the public knew the truth there would be a shit storm! How are you going to replace these officers? Hire shitbags from the KCMO school district? They've already tried to squeeze gang bangers through the academy & they are now accepting applicants who have smoked crack cocaine!! What does the desperation of those hirings tell you? Black, white, or purple, is that the officer you want showing up to your house? Chump Forte may be a good man, I wouldn't know because he doesn't show his face to the rank & file, despite what that bullshit article says. Being a good man doesn't translate to being a good leader. He's in over his head and instead of admitting it and surrounding himself with those who can contribute, he denies the facts, continues to use social media to try and blow smoke up the publics ass, while promoting shitbags and appointing inexperienced people to critical positions based on the color of their skin. And before you suggest that "if I don't like it I should leave", I am! I'm taking my decade plus of experience and training elsewhere and then I'll watch from the outside as this city continues to spiral down the toilet.

9:02 that's really good, "clearing out dead weight". You made me laugh my ass off and you know exactly why. I have to agree with tkc on this one, so many problems with the pd and yet the shit rag kcstar has an article today that makes it sound like the chief and the pd is making major strides and improvements to address crime in kc. Yet crime hasn't changed one bit. What fantasy world do they live in? The only reason I still buy that rag on the weekends is out of pure habit. Get my coffee and buy the paper. It's come time to change my habits, as the star is irrelevant today as they no longer report on what's really happening in this dirty old town.

How does dead weight clear out dead weight? If you haven't noticed those that are leaving are looking elsewhere for a place where they can actually be a part of an organization that allows them to make a difference rather than just earn a pay check and do the bare minimum. They realize that the kcpd is no longer that place. It stopped being the big dog in this metro area a long time ago as mediocrity breeds further mediocrity. Chief D wasn't the answer to the problem, an outside chief who could shake up the establishment was the answer. Chief D is a product of the dysfunctional system so the malaise will continue for another chief's term.
