KANSAS CITY NORTHLAND PERSPECTIVE: METRO NORTH MALL CELEBRATION!!!
A long, long time ago . . . On Sundays my family used pack at least a dozen of us in to my tia's beat up yellow Chevy and make a road trip to Metro North Mall in order to buy stuff off the clearance rack.
Recently, I found this commercial in my bookmarks and wanted to clear it out:
Metro North Mall - The Commercial
I might have linked this previously but it's still GREAT STUFF and it makes us realize that hipster pouting is the future of the American Economy for better or worse. The clip is also important because it shows us that the Northland might be home to all of Kansas City's growth but the area also faces a very distinct set of challenges including but not limited to the short life-cycle of shopping districts.
Still, it's important to look on the bright side and no one can ever say that I didn't do my part to encourage Kansas City Commerce.

Amazing what the city of Kansas City can wreck when the city fathers decide to compete with the very businesses that provide tax revenue. Hence Zona (Friggen) Rosa
Thats city politics now welcome the new for free while screwing the real residents and businesses for every dime they have.
We hate black and brown people, because we are stupid and scared.
doesn't look like it did them much good.
Most days Zona Rosa is a ghost town too.
Go over to Wal-Mart, and you won't notice a ghost parking lot. Specially on the weekend when working people are off and shopping.
You probably don't subscribe to very many retail sales publications to see trends on where people shop for retail goods. You can bet retail execs do, because they see their own sales figures from across the country.
It's pretty clear enclosed shopping centers are out of favor just now in many markets. And in some, they don't even exist!
People may browse for entertainment but they walk out with small bags but don't buy much. They go to Wal-Mart and Target and buy. They shop price for the same discounted goods.
Until you learn the retail industry, perhaps you shouldn't pontificate on trends you know nothing about--especially if you don't leave your mom's basement all that often on your limited income and male oriented cheap attitudes!
Retail exists for Christmas shopping...and they'll do fairly well at Zona on weekends til Christmas when they're busy all day.
And in Johnson County where you probably rarely go, even Oak Park Shopping Center manages to eak out a meager living along with the many strip malls and stand alone retailers within a mile of it.
Bloggers need to know their limitations! Moreover, ONE EMAILED observation to you isn't really a TREND!
I have to agree that Wal-Mart is a great look at the new economy.
Know your limitations that you're obviously a full of shit northlander suburbanite. Enjoy your abandoned subdivision. There is a trailer park coming soon to your neighborhood. Hope you like Meth.
Don't get testy boys. You'll need that energy for this week.
10:39 - Reads way and believes way too many trade mags. Grow up lady.
10:39 isn't as hooked up as they would like you to think they are. More experts running around predicting what is going to happen and they to be honest a lot of the time just guessing.
The so called experts who was predicting way sales would be for Christmas on the east coast this year have just took a huge hit in their predictions with this storm coming.
To be honest nobody has a real clue what is going to happen in retail sales. Most the time it's a crap shoot. Trying to predict long term retail sales is like trying to predict long term weather.
Only thing in sales that stays stable more or less is the things people need and use everyday (clothes, personal grooming items, groceries)but even those sales are hurting some as well.
If you have a shopping center a mall or strip mall and it is 70% full you are doing good as long as the ones there are up to date on rent and cam charges.
You don't hate niggers and Mexicans because you are stupid and scared, you hate them because you are smart. How many of KC's 100 homicides have been in the Northland? .............exactly. Now wife beating, that's a whole 'nother issue. The KCMOPD and FD that populate the northland love to beat the shit out of their wives, girlfriends and mistresses. They don't kill 'em, just slap around a little bit.
strangely, you make a somewhat interesting point. Weird.
Any business, including retail, has to adapt to changing circumstances and public tastes. It's just that in KCMO every time a business sits on its butt, watches the world go by, doesn't invest in changes and improvements, and finally fails, the TAXPAYERS are tapped to subsidize the next try at success.
And the bigger failure, the more public money you get.
Quite a deal!
LOL Why was he knocking on the chains of a closed store. Pure parody! Sad but true.
It was a sad day for us cocksuckers when they shut down the Metro North tea-room. DAMN! Back to Waterworks Park.
