KANSAS CITY MORNING STAR BAPTIST CHURCH POLITICAL SIGN CONTROVERSY!!!

A story that we previewed yesterday afternoon and a clear sign of election season controversy in this KCTV5 exposé . . .

The IRS prohibits not-for-profit churches like Morning Star from putting out political signs. But just like the fall leaves changing, you'll find political signs dotting the property around the church at 27th Street and Prospect Avenue.

Behind the scenes . . . The complaint about election signage is not only valid but might be an indication that Kansas City's Eastside is offering a bit of pushback against traditional (and some say old school) leadership from the Revs that has dominated the 3rd District for years.

DEVELOPING . . .

The "Be Sure You Build the East Patrol Station on Property You Have to Buy From Us" had been damaged by wind and rain.
They HAD to be replaced by SOMETHING!

Let's see its OK for incumbents to spend millions of taxpayer dollars on their campaigns but its not OK for a non-profit. Every time there is a tax election cities, school districts and counties spend hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars campaigning for its passage. Until these abuses are stopped I cannot get upset about a few yard signs at a church.

What bothers you more, Tony? The yard signs or the fact that it is a Black Church?

The Catholic Church is the militant arm of the Republican Party and they don't pay taxes.

On the corner,
Raisin' a congregation,
Sayin' that he's the one,
Brothers and sisters,
That's gonna bring us all salvation.

@10/23/12 7:55 AM All those entities you mentioned (cities, schools and counties) benefit from the passage of taxes. Taxes are their funding bas! A churches revenue is derived from members; not taxes. Your argument has wholes in it. Work on that!

Tony's too liberal.

I mind that this is a black church.

Shut it down.

@Orphan of the Road

Thanks for sharing. The song is on point. This Rev told reporters he "didn't know the signs were there." A lying religious leader. He should have just remained silent or said we'll move them. He lies outright and says he "didn't know they were there."

If he lies about yard signs then guess what else he's doing.

Stealing in the name of the Lord!

Somebody ought to steal his air conditioner again. What a creep!

To bad the IRS doesn't apply those same rules to PBS and NPR.

So I saw three yard signs in a big vacant lot, so far off the street that they could barely be seen, one of them was beat up, and one of them was about Proposition A which, according to IRS rules, a non-profit can certainly campaign openly for or against.

This is a scandal?

Must have been a reeeeeal slow news day for both Channel 5 and Tony.

I hope this controversy will put to an end. And this church should know what their suppose to put up a good signage not something disrespectful.
