Why did he shoot them? The building was empty. What did he think he was defending? Why was he there? Why was he armed? They weren't robbers, since the building was empty.

He was probably armed because he was the one legally on his property, which had been previously burglarized five times in recent months.

How do you burglarize an empty building? They did not get what they deserved. They have as much value as you or I. No one deserves to be shot down like a dog. Especially, over property rights! You're just a city full of vicious animals, aren't you?

They stealing copper from the building. A building they broke into and had no legal purpose of being there.
The theives were actively engaged in a felony. They knew the risks involved. I'm glad they got caught. They knew the risks of possibly getting shot when they engaged in this felony crime.
In addition to their injuries, I hope they both get prison time. Serves them right.

They were in a building they didn't belong in at a time of day that screams "I'm a fucking criminal"!! The owner is 74 years old and they are younger than him and out number him.
