"Getting ready to head back to KC today. Lots of follow up to do from this trip including 2 potential biz opportunities for KC companies in China. Also have committment from their Commerce Dept's CIPA program to help arrange business exchanges (provided I give them 8 months advance notice) and promote our businesses. Then we've got our Friendship City visit from Yan'an to prepare for in the Spri
ng. Then I've got issues and ordinances on billboards, prostitution and synthetic drugs waiting for me.

"Three final takeaways: 1) Very few people in China are aware of Kansas City but when they hear the story they want to learn more. We really have something to sell. 2). The State of Missouri has had an MOU with the Chinese government since 2008. Sounds great except that what has been primarily promoted is St. Louis, not KC. (Heard it myself from the director of the CIPA program). That changes immediately. 3). I'll never complain again about rush hour or aggressive driving. You've not really experienced either unless you've been to Beijing. I'm really not sure how they avoid accidents but they do."

Maybe the China trip was productive . . . The question: Are Kansas City Council people qualified to conduct international business?

Either way . . . Chinese junkets have been mostly kept quiet by mainstream media and Kansas City voters and residents haven't really had an opportunity to voice an opinion.
