BREAKING!!! KCPD TWEET ALONG TONIGHT!!!

Voted one of the best social media efforts in Kansas City . . . Check it:

Come on the Kansas City Police “tweet along” tonight

Kansas City Police will once again give the public a first-hand look at what happens on an officer’s typical shift in their tweet-along today.

From 8 p.m. to midnight October 19, a member of the department’s Media Unit will ride along with officers in the East Patrol Division and tweet everything that happens.

The public is invited to follow along at twitter.com/kcpolice.

Chief Darryl Forté conceived the idea because he wanted to give the public a better idea of what officers face on a given shift.

Any information that could endanger someone – such as victims’ names or exact addresses – will not be tweeted.

KCPD has done multiple tweet-alongs and presented about them at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) conference earlier this month to encourage more agencies to do them and educate the public they serve. Kansas City Police are the fifth-most followed major city police department in the United States on Twitter, according to the IACP Center for Social Media.

The only reason Forte does things by Twitter is so he can avoid face to face encounters and personal accountability. Same thing with his blog. He'll go out on his motorcycle to talk to the "ladies" in the community but when it comes to facing up to the employees of the department or the business community, he is nowhere to be found, except on twitter or his blog. What was a spineless douchebag.

Social media does not equal community policing. Social media is just entertainment.

The tweets will read: The officers arrived on scene of the disturbance. The calling party stuck her head out the door and stated "shee gawwwn". Hey officer " whats yo name is?"

Nigger sees nigger. Nigger shoots nigger. Nigger dies. Nigger flees.

Or

Nigger sees whitey. Nigger robs whitey. Nigger calls all his nigger buddies over. Niggers stomp whitey.

Who is the entity that is texting the tweets? Is it a KCPD employee?...do they have to get their messages approved before they tweet it? I have to say the tweets seem raw and not spun, but its kind of boring considering all the shit that goes on in this little Detroit city.

I think this whole twitter thing is a social media type online reality show, but it will only work, if they do this twitter thing city wide, if you dont have a tweeter in every car in every division, then all you are getting is a sample, and depending on whats going on in this city in what ever division, it kinda makes this project a entertainment venue, rather than tweeting what really goes on in this city. I support KCPD but this is kinda dumb!

The tweets tonight seem like they are trying to show this is a quiet bedroom town, like Greenwood or Lake Lottawana...yet in the morning you will see on the news 5 people were murdered, 2 people died in fatality accidents, and 2 monkeys crossed the road. (one on PCP)

11:37 The tweets are fun too follow, but I thought the purpose of the program was for citizens too see and follow what goes on in this city.

I don't think they need to have a tweeter reporter in every car, but they do need one in every zone when they are doing this. If they don't they will lose followers and fast, and if they think this program is effective just in one car in just one zone, it will
disappear fast. But hey...KC is used to good ideas fading fast because it was mismanaged. So what else is new?

The fire department should do this....they never will because people who follow tweets wouldnt wait 5 hours between calls, and when a call came out they if KCMO taxpayers would be pissed! thats not rocket science.

Of all the ridiculous PR stunts the KCPD regularly rolls out, and there are far too many to count, this has to be the silliest.
If anyone has ever ridden along with officers in east patrol on the dog watch from 7:30pm -6:00am, you'd know that the cars race from one call to the next with a mixtue of domestic violence, robberies, gunshots, and who knows what else.
What Forte', the police board, and the KCMO elected officials need to do is to develop a much better understanding that unless they engage the community and initiate a serious effort to round up and prosecute the thugs who are terroroizing east side neighborhoods, and increasingly downtown and midtown KCMO, all the tax money they've been throwing at their harebrained projects is going to be completely wasted.
Who wants to go downtown when people are shot in the parking lot of the one and only grocery store?
It's too bad KCMO doesn't have an actual municipal government instead of an amateur real estate gang.
