Once again Kansas City anti-crime activist Alonzo Washington is working to keep the public safe and informed about the possibility of violence among "scholars" in our neighborhoods.

This blog has noted on instance of violence after the next at the KCPS and the focus is always to control the media message instead of acknowledge the problem . . . Behind closed doors the KCPS has never really solved ongoing problems related to false alarms, arson, fighting and teacher intimidation . . . Mr. Washington working to stop violence before it happens is an important step and represents a great deal of progress over a school administration which is mostly focused on reacting to negative coverage rather than taking control of violence in unaccredited Kansas City Public Schools.

Seriously Tony, what has Alonzo accomplished of any serious substance and value to the public why do you continue hyping and shilling for him?
Read this People magazine article which recounts Alonzo Washington helping to identify Precious Doe when authorities had ignored a source with information for years. He helped that case and he often helps criminals turn themselves in, my question for his critics is simple? If you don't like Alonzo Washington then what are you going to do to replace the work that he does for the community? Alonzo wants people to work and help the police. In this day and age that is an important message for our community to hear.

Man it's a good thing that they are scheduling fights now. It should help in bringing the fighters to justice.
Agreed. As frustrating as he can be at times, Alonzo Washington does his best to make a positive impact on the entire community. His critics may describe him differently, but they can't change facts. KC is at least a little better off as a direct result of Alonzo's work.

What have you done for us LATELY other than say that last spring, there would be riots on the plaza? I think that was mostly wishful thinking and priming the pump but it didn't happen.
IF there are riots, its because the kids don't like Michelle's free lunch menu at school.
WHen that happens, let them eat slop again, like served in the Department of Corrections' facilities. Maybe KCMO schools SHOULD be under state control. Give them 24 hour housing; cut down on urban crime. Aunties, just hand em over when they hit high school to the state.

And there is the 'root cause' of violence in Kansas City, and not just the schools. As with most animal population problems, it is-
A) taking care of itself, and
B) not very pretty when it happens.
A part of the insanity in the KC fabric is TKC incessant and unexplainable puff pieces for Zo man the ZootSuit Swame of Spin.

Alonzo's persona can occassionally be humerous, but I don't get the hate either.
He is an outspoken black man, who does his level best, as I see it, to stem the disgraceful avalanche of violence in the African American community.
He is unwavering in his support of working with the police and anyone interested when it comes to solving crimes.
He is a forceful opponent of violence.
The violence and threats of violence in minority communities are the main concern of most citizens, black and white throughout this country.
Alonzo, whether or not you like his style, is a force in the community for finding criminals who commit that same violence.
If in fact, there are indeed plans to use violence in schools or in public, which will inflict harm on citizens, students and the city's budget, and, Alonzo has information in advance of this activity, then why not address the situation and prevent it?
Then, after this is done, why not acknowledge, if it is the truth, that the man who helped stop the problem is worthy of the appropriate accolades?
Alonzo may get an A for effort but an F in the results category. In the world of crime those who speak, don't know. Those who know, don't speak. Perhaps the KCK and KCMO school districts should add Fight Club to the curriculum. It might help raise the GPA's of some scholars.
Chuck & Spyke are correct. Alonzo is the leader speaking out against the violence, & the 'stop snitching' meme. It may seem clever to make fun of him, but it would be more useful to help him.
You'd think that given who Alonzo is telling his scoop to - that eventually it'll become unwise for his sources to snitch even to him.
We must be in end times because I have to agree with Bryon on this one. Mr. Washington should be aplauded for his efforts and no booed.

so why no updates from Mr Washington on his personal tips fund? He companies, got money from a couple of different businesses, orgs or individuals. He was going to use these funds pay for tips. No news of tips or further talk of the money. Things that make you go hmmmmm. Indeed.
