Kansas City political insiders have revealed some interesting implications from an otherwise insignificant news tidbit that was mostly unnoticed.
To wit . . .
STATE SEN. JOLIE JUSTUS RALLYING FOR LOCAL CONTROL IN STL NOT ONLY CONFIRMS HER UPCOMING KANSAS CITY COUNCIL RUN BUT ALSO REVEALS THAT SHE'S BECOMING EVEN MORE FRIENDLY WITH MAYOR SLY'S UPCOMING ELECTION SLATE!!!
Additional fact that might cause Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders a bit of concern . . . Sen. Victor Callahan was in the crowd as well. But we'll talk about that later . . .
A few quick observations . . .
Please name one bit of Missouri anti-crime legislation passed, sponsored or authored from Sen. Jolie Justus.

Rank & File KCPD don't like the idea of local control but Mayor Sly and his police board seem to be pushing it . . . Given the inexperience of Sen. Justus on any topic related to crime the move is CLEARLY A POLITICAL PLOY and doesn't really have much to do with anything but advancing her position.

Of all the Missouri Legislators in Kansas City . . . Why is it that only the two politicos who are termed out have come forward to support local control?!?!?
Sadly, Jolie Justus is starting her campaign for City Council in a manner that continues to neglect neighborhoods, residents, rank & file workers and instead focuses on creating political alliances and connections with power brokers.

Local control will be the final nail in an already dead and dysfunctional police department. If local control arrives it will be in your face politicization of all the police services and who gets hounded by the police and who gets off because of political connections.
Anyone supporting local control has an agenda that does not benefit the majority of people in the city and jackoff county for that matter.

Jolie is one of a handful of forward thinking voices in the right wing shit pile that is Jefferson city. One of 2 no votes on strip club regulation (big gubmint regulation from the big gubmint haters), one of the few fighters against the anti-contraception, anti-health care choice and health care market lunatics that outstaters elected to go serve the whims of corporate lobbiests.
The 4th district is still the economic and cultural heart of this city, and Jolie is a fine woman to represent it.
Jolie is a non effective politician she had the power of filibuster and never used it sorry just being a liberal is not enough ,she fooled us once not ever again.

Why do you think the state took control of the KC police so many years ago. Only the politicians are not killing people just taxing them to death and wasting their money on tax subsidies to the rich and connected now and practing not corruption like in the past but raging malfeasance and misfeasance.
There is a spoils system today but it has to be applied with more sophistication.
NO sane person wants that mishandling of city government to be extended into an already ethically handicapped police department.

1. State control is already politicized. It's political lackies that are appointed by the Governor. A local control system can be designed that will be much better.
2. Repubs have a filibuster-proof majority in the state senate, so you can't really expect the few Dem senators to accomplish much.

While many of the comments on this thread are thoughtful, particuarly those who point out how disfuncitonal and broken the KCPD aleady is, the outrage at the behavior of the KCMO electeds is rally rather sadly comical. It's as though these people somehow appear from nowhere, settle into city hall or Jeff City, and make all their self-serving, uninformed, and downright stupid decisions.
Message to anyone who lives in KCMO: YOU CONSTANTLY ELECTED AND RE-ELECT THESE PEOPLE AND THOSE JUST LIKE THEM.
That's why KCMO is the laughing stock of the metro and no other government wants anything to do with them.
Municipal government isn't a hobby, a game,or just a chance to stroke your ego. Residents actaully depend on such things as police, fire hydrants that work, streets that don't wreck their cars, code enforcement, and all the rest.
Was don't the swells at the Chmaber of Commerce hire these people and put them somewhere they can't do quite so much damage? The Union Station basement comes to mind.

KCMO and StL city are the only things that keep Missouri from being a KS/Nebraska/Arkansas-style nowhereville whose sole purpose is to redstribute money from working people to corporate interests.
