There's a lot movie news this Saturday and that's appropriate given that Kansas City is one of the biggest moviegoing markets in all of the nation.
In fact, while researching this post a Kansas City insider reminds us of the local legacy of AMC theaters.
Longtime movie aficionados might remember Kansas City native Stan Durwood and his impact on movie history. Mr. Durwood, a WWII Air-Force Veteran, not only pioneered the movie multi-plex but also designed AMC uniforms in military fashion. In fact, it's Mr. Durwood's reputation that sparked this post.
To wit . . .
KANSAS CITY POLITICAL INSIDERS HAVE GROWN INCREASINGLY TROUBLED BY THE COMMUNIST TIES OF THE CHINESE CONGLOMERATE THAT NOW OWNS AMC!!!
Sadly, mainstream media seems intent only on covering happy corporate merger news and even celebrates gifts for KC Area Schools without much mention of the controversial ownership that offends more than a few locals.
A bit of perspective from a Kansas City political insider:
"I knew Stan Durwood and as a former military man he would have been livid while looking at the current state of the company he helped to pioneer."
Remember that the chair of the Dalian Wanda Group is a rather prominent member of the Communist Party in China and sits on the nation's top advisory council.
Now as the company looks to buy a bit of good PR in Kansas City . . . Local media remains tragically silent on the political affiliations of the new AMC boss.
Regarding the Wanda Group buying spree that's now moving into Hollywood content . . . A Kansas City political insider says this . . .
"It's just insane that that a top ranking Communist businessman now has access to thousands of screens across the nation and very few people are making a fuss about it or even asking any questions," The KC Insider noted. "Personally, I'm done with the movie chain. I'm not going to patronize a place owned by people who would be content to put a bullet in my head."
Lest some folks might write this off as criticism as reactionary and having to do with politics rather than a critique of a theater-going experience . . . The KC insider urges KC movie fans to visit Alamo Drafthouse instead patorinizeing a Communist connected biz. He notes that's where he's taking his moviegoing dollars.

Let the Chinese have the lousy movies. They are over-priced animated comic books anyway. Every fourth line in the script in any of these movies is , "HOLY SHIT!!" That is an apt description of movies today.
Well, the trouble with living beyond your means is that those who loan you the money OWN YOU.
As the CHinese have loaned us a fair amount of money. Not as much as the Social Security Trust Fund, but still a fair amount.
Expect them to use part of that money to invest in good businesses.... not just build more weapons.

The cold war is over. What is this? Nam era? There is no communist threat. Let anyone and everyone else swing to the left. Who cares? Further, China is hardly 'communist'. They are swinging to the right faster than nearly anyone else.
I strongly suspect he's a businessman first and a communist second.
I don't want my money going to China, whatever the threat level is. LOVE Alamo Drafthouse. Worth the trip, guys. It's beautiful, staff is so friendly, seats beyond comfortable and the audience behaves so you can hear the movie. Free parking at the Consentino parking garage. I was a skeptic, but yes.
If I want a bargain movie, can't beat the Dickinson theaters. Plaza and Merriam. They are your regular movie theaters, but excellently priced for practically all of the showings.
Avoid AMC.
Avoid AMC, that makes for a good t-shirt.
@Hyperblogal - You are right but that doesn't mean his money isn't being used to prop up a deadly and brutal regime.
Maybe instead of the toy train the Chinese can loan us some rickshaws. That would create at least 2000 new jobs for rickshaw drivers.
These guys are putting in smart boards and mounted lcd projectors in "hundreds" of classrooms. I don't remember the casinos doing anything like that.
China is not the enemy, they are the competition. They are about as communist as the democratic party. That is something the left needs to realize as they promise a bunch of crap that they never deliver. Apparently the Chinese deliver...

9:05 you got a point. I bet if KC had Chinese police units patrolling the urban core that crime and stray cats would go way down.
I could just see one of those hood punks pants below dey butt dread lock dope smokin cool dumber than dog shit street punks with a gun trying to outwit the cold machine precision of a chinese law enforcement officer committed to doing his job.
If the local control boys would give hire and give Chinese officers greater lethal force ability they would clean up crime where "Sly and the family groan" is failing.
Until KC gets serious about educating our children and reducing crime we are going to keep the same ol shit in our lives.
